You don't get points for defending submissions, Fitch got out of the back mount but being in somebodies guard is not nearly as an advantageous position.

If that was a 10-8... Silva V Sonnen, Brock V Carwin, Edgar V Maynard - all should have been 10-7's.

If there's no such thing as a 10-7, 10-8 has to mean the fight should be close to stopped by knockouts or getting TKO'ed saved by the bell, Fitch's could of landed a 100 more of his pillows - 10-9 is right IMO.

At first I thought Fitch did win a split. Then I thought wait a minute a draw does make sense. Although a split in BJ's favor could have happened.

BJ fawked up in the 3rd. He didn't even reverse. All he needed to do was stand up for 2 1/2 minutes or reverse somewhere in between the four minute + of gnp. BJ is very mentally weak when he gets broken. Anderson Silva took that same beating for five rounds and never broke once. He came out firing on all cylinders every round to try to end him.

i had 10-9 penn round 1
10-10 draw round 2
10-9 fitch round 3

= draw

this was way less controversial than the edgar-maynard II decision, there shouldn't be any controversy

Personally I'm happy they finally (seem to) give more 10-8 rounds. Once they decide to tell the fighters the scorecards after every round I'm a happy guy.

I agree with Dana... Round 2 is still a toss up but leaning more toward Penn. Rd 3 was far from a 10-8 rd.

Why not? He showed effective grappling by defending the sub easily and reversing the dominant position to do some ground and pound. BJ did nothing but grapple, why should grappling win you a round when you failed at what you were attempting.

You could make the same argument about GnP with 100+ strikes doing little damage and without not coming even close to a finish.

I'm willing to bet Fitch will get cut if he ever loses 2 fights in a row.
This. Dana will go through alot of trouble to make Fitch look bad even though he isnt. He denied him the title shot because of a lack of connection with fans....

He just put Fitch in a Main Event fight against a legend so he COULD get his name out there more. IF he would have won in a decisive manner it would have been easy to market him but when your content on letting the judges fight for you then you get what you deserve. Dana gave him his shot AGAIN and he blew it. I'm not a Fitch hater but Dana did try promoting Fitch, Fitch just isn't fighting up to his potential and promoting himself through his fights, he's got zero killer instinct.
