I think Werdum is right behind him but even if one person in this SF tourney cleans house, they'll still be #3 behind Cain and Cigano. Hell, Struve would probably beat Barnett/Rogers/Sergei/AA.
|
I love me some Struve, but I don't see him beating Barnett at this point. He is just to lanky, I would be worried that Barnett might tear one of those long limbs right off. And this is coming from someone who doesn't think a hell of a lot about Barnett as a person, however I think he deserves a spot at the botome hal of this list.
My rankings
1. Cain
2. JDS
3. Lesnar
4. Werdum
5. Carwin
6. Mir
7. Bigfoot
8. Overeem
9. Barnett
10. Fedor
Overeem has a lot of potential for movement this year. If he pulls off this tournament he will be ranked either #1 or #2 depending on how other things pan out.

This is how it really is.
Cain
Overeem
JDS
Werdum
Big Foot
Fedor
Lesnar
Carwin
Sergei
Mir/Rogers Its a close call for the final spot..

Rankings don't necessarily reflect skill levels IMO. To me rankings are about who have you beaten. That's why I ranked Overeem so low despite thinking he could beat a lot of the people above him.

I agree Leif, and did KillerShark really just put Sergei on a top 10 list?

I dunno what would happen if they actually fought but rankings wise right now it's hard to justify Barnett/Rogers/Sergei etc as being anything at all.
And the Overeem thing, c'mon. Mousasi ALSO tooled the K-1 heavyweight champion in a K-1 match, when are people going to start saying he's the #1 LHW? He also finished Jake O' Brien faster than Jones or Velasquez could... so I guess he'd easily smash Rua. Oh yeah and he walked through Musashi easily in K-1 too.
I LOVE Moose and I think Overeem is pretty solid but you can't translate K-1 to MMA rankings, period. Especially since Overeem's Grand Prix path was the weakest ever taken IMO.

yea becasue he deserves it more than Nelson because unlike Nelson he holds a recent win over AA, and AA and Werdum are the only cross over grounds between the 2 org's to go on so with that in mind Werdum drops below JDS whos only superior in the UFC is Cain, and Sergei and Rogers both wins over AA unlike Nelson who lost his fight to AA before going to the UFC, steps them both above him and holds down Nelson below but claiming, he will now be ahead of AA but still Rogers and Sergei atm are still ahead.
there is a lot of logic in my list that than can be explained with a lot more credibility than just sticking UFC fighters ahead of SF by brand and fame relating to brand, and just branding certain individuals like AA as cans or bums based on nothing stronger than hype and internet reputation.

Firstly Lesnar aint 2.
Werdum beat Overeem and Fedor so he should be top 3
Cigano has no big wins other than Nelson
|
Ugh, yeah.
The number three heavyweight in the world(Werdum by your logic) isn't a big win?

@ Killershark
Are you forgetting how badly Monson utterly embarrassed Sergei in the last 3 years Sergei has fought 3 times and one of those fights he was completely outclassed. Hell Monson would rank higher that Sergei, he is 11-3 in the same period, is on a 6 fight win streak and whooped Sergei's ass. Besides the fact that even using your hypothetical ranking system Monson is a far better fighter than Sergei. Hell Monson beat Nelson in the last 2 years to.

a win over the Reem back then does not even begin to hold the same credibility as what a win over him now would do, its might as well of been a completely different fighter, beating the Reem back then holds about as much credit as beating Keith Jardine

that is a good point and looking at Monson opponents an the fact he has 2 losses just last year its hard to make a top 10 place for him, top 15 tho I would say, kind of kicks Sergei down to somewhere in the top 15 also, with leaves Mir and Rogers as 9 and 10, take your pick which way round its to close to call imo.
