When everyone looks back at this thread in 2-3 years and gets a cheap laugh over how hyped up Jones was, I'll be right there laughing too.

I don't see how a guy who has smashed everyone who's been put in front of him is all hype? And if it wasn't for Rashad's injury, he was still another fight away from a title shot. There really wasn't anyone else to fight Shogun.

There's a lot of undefeated fighters in the UFC right now who have smashed similar level opponents. Infact there's at least one in the same division as Jones; his name is Mr. Wonderful.

I don't care that he's getting the title shot because his fans have been his fans since like... the first round of Bonnar. He could be fighting James Irvin right now and everyone would still feel the same.

I just think it's a good thing if they found out a way to put aside moral values and all that stuff and are willing to fight.
I didn't think they would agree on this, honestly. At least not now. But, this just shows how much we know in reality about true facts in MMA!

PS: If i were a bad guy i would say it's the same with JDS. Ever since that KO punch with Werdum

But i'm not a bad guy!

He's #5 on my list at LHW on my list - JBJ, Shogun, Machida, Rashad, Davis. (not including Anderson).

But I got railed from all angles when I was a forum newb last year for my first post on the forum as #1 Anderson Silva and #2 JBJ last year, so what do I know.

If you think JDS has anywhere near the hype of Jones you're crazy. JDS doesn't even headline despite having nothing but vicious, exciting fights against top guys. People are already saying when Jones cleans out LHW he should go to HW.

Btw which of Jones past opponents submitted Fedor? Was it... Vera?

I don't know if i mentioned this, but i hate this word: "hype".
Explanation starts 5 rows bellow!

You are so right! He doesn't headline that much, but Jones does.
But it's not Jones's fault for that. The UFC, the MMA shows, the MMA specialists - reporters, commentators - the fans - the MMA world in general has created this hype.
He didn't do it. Well in a way he did, by beating his opponents so easily, so far.
But, he said it himself. He feels like this "hype" needs to stop. Everyone should appreciate him as a fighter and not take anything out of the contest, creating this invisible shield arround him, that gives him super powers or something...

“Hype doesn’t get you a win. Hard work gets you a win. I’m sick of the hype train. Hopefully after Feb. 5 when I’m in the middle of the octagon, I’m sweating, I’m doing my interview, you’ll see a 23-year-old boy who’s worked his ass off to be standing there in front of Joe Rogan to be giving that interview. Hopefully I can derail the Jon Jones hype train by showing people that I’m serious, and I work hard to be where I’m at.”

I said it once: i feel like he will be LHW champion one day and if he continues like this, he could turn into a GSP or Anderson Silva one day: beating everyone and dominating his division - because he is very young and he has come a very long way in such a short ammount of time.
There is no denying: if he keeps improving like this, he may very well be incredibly hard to beat in a couple of years.
The problem with him going to HW: i believe it will happen eventually, because he is still growing. He said it on numerous ocasions.
He has the frame of a HW and he said he is doing more weight exercises, to increase his strength. That leads to an increase muscle mass, wich will be harder to cut as he grows bigger.
Plus i think, he would like to test himself at HW on day.

But first, sights are on the LHW division, for at least 3-4 years.
But you never know....
