Ninja Rua: Jones will be in trouble once Shogun punches him

“He’s one of the toughest fighters on MMA currently, he’s tall and has a great conditioning, he’s rising, so it must be a hell of a good fight. But he’ll get hurt when my brother’s punches finds his face." - Murilo "Ninja" Rua

But will Shogun be standing long enough for his punches to find Jones' face?

I expect Shogun to charge Jones much like he did Machida. Shogun's technique is solid enough that he can rush you and still land. Too many fighters allows Jon Jones to fight his fight... you can't fight warily against a man like him. Shogun needs to put the pressure on, and he needs to do so quickly. You can throw a man completely out of whack when you give him a taste of his own medicine.

Of course Murilo takes his brother's side... but he does have a valid point.

I haven't seen Jones take a solid punch. I definitely think Shogun is on a head hunting mission to prove something. Brutal leg kicks, berserk punching and I see Jones getting TKO'd late 2nd, early 3rd.

One thing for sure though... Jones will be looking to capitalize on Rua's mistakes early ala explosive takedowns to vicious elbows.

War Shogun!!

Talk about stating the obvious.

*if* he punches him... of course.

I made that same point, that Jones hasn't gotten hit yet, and people countered with the upkicks he took from Vera. But I don't think that's exactly the same.

Taking an illegal upkick and being given time to recover right away isn't exactly the same as getting punched in the face by Shogun and having to recover while dodging more huge strikes.

Jones getting punched is as big of an unknown as Shogun's knee.

It has yet to seem if he can take a punch, so really there's no telling if he can or can't. That is probably the only question mark about him.

If Shogun would do that, Jones would clinch him up immediately and drop him on his head a couple of times followed with some nasty GnP.

Shogun needs to pick him apart from the outside, he can't rush a Greco Roman guy. He should just outstrike him and KO him.

If he get's leg kicked and punched by Shogun, he will probably forget his roots, because he never fought a guy like Shogun.. not even close.

It should say something that Bones has fought as many guys as he has and people are still arguing about whether or not he has a chin. It's funny, there are only like 4 or 5 people in the UFC LHW division who can possibly test it and they are either the champ or circling him for their shot. I think this will be a very great fight and will probably answer any questions we have about both fighters.

Who has he fought that could expose his chin? Bader? Matyushenko? Vera?

I'd say fighting someone like Rashad/Rampage/Machida and of course Shogun would prove if he can take a punch. Make no mistake, Jones is a highly talented guy... but he's stepping up to the big boy leagues skipping all of these former champs/contenders to get a shot at the title (which I think is rushed and will expose some weaknesses).

Time will tell though.
