Stay where you are George. Be the impossible dream for these guys to aim for. I'm convinced keeping the champ there improves all the other fighters chasing him.
I want to see him fight Sheilds and Condit. I want to see how the other guys evolve. The WW divison isnt just some throw away piece of shit. Yes, its a little shallow right now. But in one year it could all look different. 10 years is a whole new generation of fighters. I, for one, want to see GSP take on all new comers at WW.
Agreed and agreed!

After his performance against Diaz he should have kept his mouth shut.
He was exhausted after 3 rounds. GSP would make him look like a fish out of the water in a 5 rounds fight...if he can hold on for that long.
Obviously these guys are out there to be the champion. They wanna beat the guy that is the champion so they can have the belt. If GSP had just lost two fights by knockout, nobody would be saying he's the best but guys would be wanting to fight him as a stepping stone. Basically all I'm saying is that the two go hand in hand, he's the champ and he's one of the best p4p fighters in the world so obviously guys are going to want to fight him for both reasons.
Heres the scary thing, Georges is still young. He's still improving every aspect of his game. His utilization of wrestling into MMA is the best in the WW division. His striking is now getting close to the top of the division if not the top. His BJJ is above competent and above average for the weight class as well. With all that said, he's going to see Freddy Roach to improve his striking, he's going to see Roger Gracie for BJJ and is constantly working on his wrestling at his home gym with Olympic level wrestlers. He's the best in the division, is young and is constantly improving and improving faster then the majority of the guys in his division.
As its been said before, he needs to move up to keep the motivation, to keep that drive to improve himself or he will eventually get complacent or bored/unmotivated and will stop improving and training the way he does today. It would take a really rare person to be content with sitting in the same weight division fighting the same guys for 10+ years which is what we could end up seeing.
I like 95% of your post.
The one thing i don't agree on is GSP getting bored and unmotivated and the "fighting teh same guys for 10+ years" scenario.
Just like Soojooko said: we will see young fighters appear in the UFC, let's call it the new generation, someone like Rory MacDonald, who is a pure MMA fighter. Very young, talented and very skilled. And he trains with GSP on a normal basis. And there will be others. And we don't have to look at such a long time period. I believe in 2-4 years the division will look very interesting, with at least 2-3 new guys in the TOP 10 of the WW division.
But i fully agre with the bolded part in particular.
Just the other day i read on his Facebook page: right now he is in London, training with Roger Gracie.
He spent last week with Freddie Roach to try and further improve his boxing.
His desire to constantly improve, to elevate his game even higher, to become just a bit better than the day before - that is what the competition should be worried about.
I think he is in a race against himself, because he's a perfectionist. Always in search of that special extra something.
I believe this is what motivates him and keeps him going at such a high level: by constantly improving, he wants to see how his evolution as a fighter compares to his opponents'.
Some may say he could do that at a higher weight class, but that was discussed so many times already.
GSP is a natural WW. Period! He has a history in this division with so many fighters and on top of this, the new generation is knocking on the door.
The WW division should be obsessed imo.
With anuthing that has a connection to GSP.
