"I can tap out Shogun." What self respecting fighter would say, No, I can't.

I wish Soccer kicks and 12-6 elbows were allowed just for this fight, then it would be even

Mike_***an_13: Jones: Despite being a white belt, I think I can tap out Shogun.
Via Mike ***an (of SBnation/bloodyelbow) and his twitter account. Not sure if he was asked a question about it.

Not sure what the big deal is. He's not talking about a BJJ match. But a sport where you can use strikes to set up a sub. What was Forrest's belt when he tapped Shogun? I don't think he got his black belt until late last year, and the Shogun fight was, what? Three years before that?

Some people think that they can convey either a philosophy on life or a complex political statement using a signature on the internet. I'm not one of them.

KOing some1 is different than subbing some1, for a white belt to say that about a black belt, one of shoguns level is ridiculous, its not the same thing, knockouts can come out of anywhere as long as you have power, subbing ppl takes skill and thats it, sure he can hurt shogun then tap him, but to say he can just tap him out...its like he doesnt respect BJJ

i see no reason why he cant just say ''i doubt i can tap him out, i will try though'' or say ''i wont tap him out but i will finish him''

many fighters admit to not being as good as another in a certain area, you think shogun would say ''sure ill out wrestle jones''...no, because he knows he cant, so what? doesnt mean he doesnt think he will win the fight

the statement wasnt disrespectful, it was ignorant...hes young...he'll learn

also...forrest wasnt a black belt but he was light years ahead of JBJ

My god you guys are so dumb *Facepalm*. I would relate him saying this to the way Chael said getting a black belt from the Nog brothers is like getting a toy in a happy meal - a joke.

If he wasn't joking, then it is disrespectful, thinking he as a whitebelt can submit a blackbelt. Not only disrespectful but very cocky. I HIGHLY doubt jones said this in 100% true meaning. He's a funny guy and likes to joke around at times, and I'm sure this is just a joke.

"MMA and Muay Thai are similar in a few aspects, such as the fact that their is no traditional belting system - only a list of people you never want to have to fight." - Kenny Florian

All this comment really told us is what we already knew. Bones WONT stand with Shogun, he has to sub him or grind out a GnP tko cos shogun will outclass him standing.

Sounds to me like Bones knows this and will go with a wrestling centred game plan on fight night which is the smartest thing he can do.

This is as ridiculous to me as Jon Fitch talking about stopping people.

It just makes them look stupid.

Not really. I don't think it is different at all. It is stupid either way. I mean look at how many people still to this day laugh and ridicule Chris Leben for this debacle.

Confidence is never bad, and a fighter should always think he's going to win a fight, but when a fighter says he's going to win a part of a fight that he's clearly overmatched, people are going to think he's an idiot and for him to STFU.

If Thales Leites went on about how he was going to knock out Anderson, everyone would be saying the same thing.

And people still point and laugh at Fitch whenever he decides to open his mouth about how much he hates decisions and how he's going to brutalize his next opponent and make them quit.
