Jon Jones Finished talking about Rashad Evans:

Quote:
We’re now ten days away from UFC 128, which means we’re ten days away from seeing the always exciting Jon “Bones” Jones fight for the UFC Light Heavyweight belt for the first time against the killer in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Today (March 9th) was the UFC 128 conference call which featured the two Light Heavies in Jones and Rua. Jones, who is usually very kind and optimistic in every interview, shed a little disgust with reporters today as teammate Rashad Evans’ name once again came into the conversation. Here is how Jones replied:

"I want to be clear to other reporters, that I absolutely HATE when people mention Rashad Evans, especially throughout this training camp. He's a friend of mine but I'm fighting Mauricio "Shogun," one of the best fighters that's been around for a long time. So for people to even be mentioning Rashad Evans right now, I think, is ludicrous. Rashad is not in my mind, he's not in my being, he has absolutely zero to do with my heart and who I am right now. Right now it's me vs. Shogun and right now I'm beating all the weakness out of myself, I'm beating all the give-up out of myself, I'm beating the lack of cardio, I'm beating the lack of confidence; any sign of weakness that's within my heart right now, I'm getting rid of it. The fact that people are bringing up Rashad, it almost angers me. Rashad has nothing to do with "Shogun" and I think from hear on out I won't even answer a question about Rashad."

I have to take the side of Jones on this one. I know as a fan I’m often shocked and disgusted by some of the questions that come up from the media in interviews, conference calls, and post fight pressers. This is one of those times. Jones, although he was angered by the question about Rashad, I feel handled the situation fittingly. Ten days away from the biggest fight of his career and reporters are still asking him about teammate Rashad Evans, who forfeited his shot at the title to Jones after a knee injury.

Excuse me if I’m out of line, but who the hell cares about Rashad Evans at this point? As a reporter you always look to ask questions that will gain information and insight that fans are interested in. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m pretty sure I would rather hear about Jones’ training, his game-plan, and his mind-set going into this championship fight with Rua…not anything regarding Rashad Evans, who might I add already held the belt and lost it without a successful defense. This is not Rashad’s time, this is Jon “Bones” Jones’ time. And frankly, I love the fact that he spun the question about Rashad into a response that gave us some insight into his mind-set: he is working on killing every weakness he has in himself in order to become the champion in just ten short days. I don’t think anyone else will be asking “Bones” about Rashad Evans, but I have to remind myself once again that sometimes media members don’t care about the most important things in the fight world, but rather the juiciest gossip they can find. So who knows…

In any regard, how does everyone else feel about the Jones comment? Is he being immature and letting the questions about Rashad interfere with his focus on winning the belt or is he focused and the anger he shed toward the Rashad question is just a sign that he is ready to boil over and take it to the current LHW champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua? Let’s hear it BJPenn.com…we’re ten days away. Let the title talks begin!

The lack of cardio comment is interesting
