No rest for the weary when it comes to UFC matchmaking.

Fresh off the heels of his first round knockout of C.B. Dollaway, Mark Munoz has already been lined up for his next fight as he faces Demian Maia in a middleweight bout at UFC 131 in Vancouver.

Sources close to the bout confirmed the booking with MMAWeekly.com on Friday. MMAMania.com first reported the bout.

Munoz (10-2) has won his last two bouts in a row and is 5-1 overall since dropping down to 185lbs. The former NCAA champion also took time to open his own gym, the Reign Training Center, and has found a new comfort level in the middleweight division.

After facing two equally strong wrestlers in his last two fights, now Munoz gets a grappler to the highest pedigree in the sport.

Demian Maia (14-2) is known throughout the world as one of the most dangerous jiu-jitsu artists in the sport. Maia is also on a two fight win streak picking up victories over Kendall Grove and Mario Miranda.

The middleweight clash will likely make the televised broadcast for the UFC 131 show going down in Vancouver, headlined by Brock Lesnar facing Junior Dos Santos in the main event.
Munoz' love of GnP Vs Maia's BJJ = uhhhhhh ohhhh for Munoz!

i say munoz by tko because he cans trike pretty good now and he'll stuff maias takedowns with ease

Maia wasn't knocked out by Silva - with or without Silva's theatrics - so i don;t think Munoz will knock him out.

And, Maia will have absolutely no problem going on the ground with Munoz.
Event though Munoz is bigger and stronger, Maia's BJJ is miles ahead and at one moment he will grab something and sink in the sub.

Maia submits Munoz!

Maia's brain shut down for 10 seconds before than KO.
He forgot he is not a striker and he got KTFO'd.
That was extremely stupid from him, foingdoing what he did.

He won't do it again any time soon.

Maia by triangle choke or armbar. His JJ is too tight for Munoz to out grapple. And Maia has the stand up to set up a shot.

Well, as long as Maia doesn't leap in with a roundhouse, he'll be fine. Silva didn't even stagger him with his punches, that is, when he wasn't dancing like a queen.

Why can he stuff Maia's takedowns with ease? Because Chael Sonnen, a far more skilled grappler, was so able to stop the body lock takedown?

This is an interesting one. Munoz's strength of gnp plays right into the BJJ advantage that Maia has. Tough one for Munoz to win, but his game plan should be to try to KO him with his big power and use his wrestling as defense.

Agree.

But I like this fight. But if he wants to Munoz SHOULD be able to keep it standing.

Maia may not have the power Munoz has standing but he's a better striker, I think people still think Maia is the striker he was three years ago.

Demian's submissions aren't as explosive and confident as they were before in MMA (likely due to how much he's improved standing) but his ground control and take-downs are as amazing as ever, maybe even better than before.

Maia gets another UD win and a great name on his resume.

I disagree. I think Maia is not only an expert at BJJ, but he's an expert at grappling. If he gets a hold of you, you're doing down. The outstanding wrestler in Sonnen got taken down with ease. Dan Miller also fell victim to Maia's superior take downs.

I think the only kind of person to avoid getting taken down is an elusive fighter (Silva) or the one hit wonder (Marquardt).

I do think Maia's chin is questionable... but I think Maia's going to get this to the ground one way or another. Whether he takes Munoz down or Munoz "stuns" Maia and jumps on top of him.
