To be fair I never saw Machida as invincible in fact I personally was very surprised he went as far as he did, and I think it had a lot to do with the division its self been very over hyped and over rated thanks to hosting some of the biggest names the sport has ever known like Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, but the skill levels of the division did not match the hype.

Machida surprised me when he beat Thiago Silva, and I was shocked when he beat Rash, tho I think there was a huge shout in that match that Rash started to fall to much into his own hype and the hype of the division when he KO'ed Chuck, which lets be fair does not count for much anymore, but Rash been Rash started to believe he was one of the best strikers out there and left his wrestling roots to display is striking, a lesson he soon learned the hard way, but I would pick Rash again like I did the first time in a rematch.

Anyway my point is this, Jones is a different type of Animal, he is the real deal the hype in this case is justified, but then Shogun is the real deal too, but I think time has not been as kind of Shogun and now its Jones time.

The premise of this thread is about "dana white feelin shogun isnt gettin his due", right? well by making the correlation between what shogun did to machida and what he might do to jones arent u invariably makin such a statement to prop him?

Which goes back to my point that machida "the invincible fighter" had merit to it.And when he was beaten it was literally like slaying the dragon. Jones isnt invincible in anyones eyes but the ones that lack MMA knowledge..His perceived greatness is nothing but a figment of the fairweathers imagination..I'll understand it when ufc try to market a shogun win as a big deal (they have a job to do)..But should we really use this match as a testament of shoguns greatness just because the majority of ufc fans know no better?

Even though I also think Jones is genuine... I cant help feeling like I've been here before.

Is is infeasible that Shogun might connect flush and Bones will crumble? Or that Jones might well be god damn rubbish off his back? We don't know his limits. We don't know how he handles the myriad of situations MMA can put you in. We do know that Shogun is strong in all areas. Ranging from very proficient, to excellent.

I just dont know. Shogun might punch Jones in the face HARD, and Jones might grin at him!

The questions go on and on. In a nutshell, I want to see Jones tested. I want his legs kicked. I want him punched hard in the face. I want him under pressure from subs. Then we can claim the hype was/is justified. I actually hope it is. We could do with a new superstar.

I apologize for not making it clear in my previous post.

Machida was hyped and almost invincible in my eyes with good grappling and some wacky (elusive) effective stand up.

What I meant about Jones was that the UFC is promoting him like they promoted Lesnar. Sure enough, Jones is a beast, and I won't argue that. I just don't think it's his time right now.

I agree that the odds should be a bit more even.

Heeeeey...I'm a big Jon Jones fan and i think Shogun should feel a bit disrespected.
But not by Jones or his fans..but from the UFC itself.
Dana should stop acting like a moralist, because he is not!
The UFC should have shown more respect for Shogun, because he's their champion. And they didn't.

Dana/the UFC have made everything possible to HYPE (hate the word) Jones as much as possible: movies about him, interviews, so many public appearences and stuff like that.

They are going ALL IN on Jones, because he is still very young, has a fan base that grows every day and they could use him as their next superstar for the years to come. If he wins this saturday, his status will sky rocket and it will feel like the future is now.
If he loses - it's not a disaster. He is young, he will get back to training, trying to refine his skills and get better. And come back stronger and more experienced next year and challenge for the belt again. And he will still be 25. (very young for this division).

So...even though Dana is right this time, he should blame himself/the company he runs, for this situation being created in the first place.

.

BELIEVE!

Fact: Shogun has never won a UFC fight in the US

He's going to be fighting Jon Jones in the US. That's bad news for him. If the fight were in Montreal I'd guarantee a 1st round KO win for Shogun but sadly the fight is south of the border.

A lot of people would say Shogun won the first fight in LA. And whats the location have to do with anything?

handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail;
only last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick;

Shogun is GREAT, but in my pov, Jones represents the superior level of the new generation of mma fighters and the evolution of the sport. We now have fighters that are great in everything they do, making them the most efective fighters ever.
I see Jones taking this, to me Shogun has a puncherīs chance.
