MW Title Contender's

Report: Nathan Marquardt to get title fight soon at UFC blog for latest news, videos, results, betting odds, fighter interviews and MMA rumors - UFCmania.com
MMA NOTEBOOK: Marquardt fights outside spotlight | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

With Rich Franklin fighting Jason MacDonald at UFC 68 and Mike Swick fighting Yushin Okami at UFC 69, the #1 contender spot at MW is currently at a log-jam. Rich wants a rematch, Swick is getting close to earning one, and Yushin Okami already has a win over Anderson Silva and is currently 19-3. Any of the winners would deserve a mention as a title contender.

Don't forget about Nathan Marquardt either. He's fresh off a quality win over Dean Lister and is a perfect 4-0 in the octagon. And with that win, Dana has said Nate may get a title shot later this year.

So my question to you is: How do you see the MW contender situation shaking up? Who will win at UFC 68 and 69, and which of those winners deserve the title shot?

discuss.

I fixed it for you

Swick deserves a shot, Franklin should get a rematch. It's a tough situation. I'm not sure if it's still Okami at UFC 69 for Swick.

It will probably be Franklin getting the shot after beating Macdonald, and then Swick or Okami fighting Marquardt to see who gets the next shot. It really depends on whether UFC wants to squeeze title shots out of all these guys or if they really want to do the right thing and make them all fight eachother to earn the shots. This year could probably be the best ever for the MW division if handled right. Its finally starting to get some depth and I think well see some really nice matchups.

I don't think that Marquardt should be that close in line for a title shot. Let Swick take a shot after Franklin gets his rematch. Personally I think that Franklin will come in with a much better game plan and walk out with the belt. I know that a lot of people see Silva as an unbeatable champion, but I thought he looked bad against a fighter that couldn't cut weight (Lutter).

1st...Franklin
2nd...Swick
3rd...Marquardt/Okami

But let's face it, by the time Marquardt gets a shot there will be a new face making himself known.

Marquardt is more deserving than Swick. Look at all the guys Nate has faught in his career, and than look at Swick. It is not even close. Thats why if Swick can get by Okami(thats a BIG if)he should fight Marquardt for a title shot. Meanwhile after Rich kills that fulgazi MacDonald he will be getting his rematch with Silva. So Im hoping for Marquardt to get a title shot in late 07

marquardt and Swick both deserve title shots, They have beaten some tough opponents and are both still undefeated.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Yushin Okami's win over Silva was a DQ. I think Silva performed an illegal knee, but I cannot remember correctly.

Yeah it's the fight where Silva throws an illegal upkick or something and gets DQed

I have seen a few of Marquardt's fights and it takes more than winning to be deserving of a shot at the belt.

THE GUY IS BORING IN EVERY FIGHT HE'S HAD IN THE UFC.

With that being said, I think that with some more fights and him actually getting out there and entertaining the crowd, he'll be deserving. But not a moment before.
