Apologize if this has been posted before, I did not see it. Did anyone else notice, right after Shogun eats that knee and the fight is called, he taps the mat twice with his right hand. The ref had of course already stopped it, and Shogun was looking down. Anyone else notice that? Maybe in a daze he just did not realize the fight was stopped and couldn't take any more?
I've got the video saved on my hard drive, though I wish I knew how to make a gif
He definitely tapped. I think he was just so beat up, gassed and dizzy, that when he got dropped by the final knee, he tapped, not realizing that the fight was already over with.
Oh indeed, I certainly don't hold anything against him or think any less of an amazing fighter. Was just curious if anyone noticed, absolutely no shame in his performance.
Also, amazed with the prompt replies, I took a leak, came back to 3 replies
He took elbows to the face/eye just like Vera but withstood it while Vera, Matsushenko, Hamill (lucky dq), and everybody else covered up big time and got TKOed.
Massive body shots which drained his energy and conditioning. In fact that liver shot was right on the money. Man I'll tell you right now if you ever get hit there it's the worst feeling in the world. You can't breathe. You're paralyzed for a moment. Just ask Oscar De La Hoya, Scott Smith, Hamill, Tito and everybody else who got nailed there.
He just took too much damage from everywhere. It's crazy.
Shogun was pinned down and got up on multiple occasions, but not before incurring a good amount of damage each time. Each time he slowed down and it was over.
One thing that stood out was how Jones was able to move out of the way when Shogun threw his strikes. Don't remember any landing.
I realize nobody is unbeatable in a sport like this, but I must agree, whoever / If ever Jones gets beaten, regardless who it is, will certainly have his hands full doing it. He's going to give problems to whoever he faces, win or lose in my opinion.
Seems that way but considering how he was completely gassed and had taken dozens of flush punches, elbows and body shots I don't blame him, he was in a hell of a state.
I don't want to see the fight again, too hard to watch
Of course he tapped. He gassed out 30 seconds into a 5 round title fight. I don't know what he was thinking coming into a title defense with such TERRIBLE cardio.
