Lost a tad respect for Wandy

Wandy is holding out for the Leben fight when the UFC and so many fans would rather watch him fight Belfort.

I thought Wandy would fight anybody but it seems that he is at the point of his career where he wants to be in slugfests. He also has the highest change to win against Leben.

He also declined to fight Stann, making up some story how he doesn't want to fight a war vet.

Does anyone else buy this? I also enjoy watching Wandy but I really don't know how to explain this, this situation just makes him look bad.

Which is odd, because I could swear Wand called out Vitor.
^^ This.

After Belfort's loss against Silva ------->

Wanderlei Silva challenges Vitor Belfort: “Where are you running to?”

When UFC came to Brazil for the first time, in 1998, Wanderlei Silva debuted on the event, but was defeated by Vitor Belfort. After that fight, Wanderlei reached the top of the world on Pride, but never got his so dreamed rematch. With Vitor’s loss to Anderson Silva, on UFC 126, “The Axe Murderer” proposed the challenge, on a phone talk with TATAME. “And now, where are you running to?”, asked Wanderlei. “I’d give him the number one (on the line to fight me) easily, I’m challenging him … I want him”. It’s up to you, Dana White and Joe Silva.

Very strange...

Oh come on! Now people are going to actually start ragging on GSP in non GSP threads for not jumping weight classes?
Don't mind Kreed!
He is a *natural-born-GSP-hater*. I think he gets an allergic reaction when he sees GSP or hears GSP's voice.

I have the same reaction when i see one of Kreed's posts. LOL I don't know why...:confused02:

I think Wandy really wants to build big fights and I think he feels he can play the good guy versus Leben. Wandy did not want to fight Stann because he likes to be the hero and in that situation you could almost guarantee the chanting of "USA USA" would be ringing through the stadium.

I'm not sure if he is also getting cold feet against Vitor as well? I would hate to think that but it may be understandable considering his recent track record for getting knocked out. Leben does have heavy hands as well, so even that isn't really a "safe" fight for him, although it is probably an easier one than Belfort.

Wandy is still the king no matter what. I gotta love the guy. Hopefully we get clarification soon as to why he is ducking Vitor.

Oh come on! Now people are going to actually start ragging on GSP in non GSP threads for not jumping weight classes? I wanna see the fight as much as the next guy but how can you blame a champion who has defended his belt all but 5 times for not wanting to jump around.

GSP clearly is not confident that at his current size he would be able to be competitive. We all just saw how technique can be negated by size and athleticism in JBJ vs Shogun, now imagine if Silva comes in with size and reach along with amazing technique.

I think the fight will eventually happen but like GSP has said if he's going to do it has to be a permanent move so he can bulk up properly to deal with big guys like Silva and Sonnen. Everyone is asking him to immediately take a super fight that could potentially damage his career in which he will clearly be at a disadvantage. Wouldn't you be cautious and want to make the transition properly if you were WW champion of the world? Or would you just be like like "screw it!"?

At this point in his career Wandy knows he is not a top level guy any more, savage KO losses will do that to you. Vitor is a KO loss waiting to happen, he is faster, more technical and just as powerful as Wand + he has KTFO him before. Stann is another guy who is just as powerful but more technical.

He probably sees the Leben fight as 1. An exciting fight for the fans, 2. A KO victory 3. A KO of the night bonus.

I think at this point it is wise of Wand to be hand picking his opponents. A few tough losses and where is his career? An exciting gatekeeper at best.

PS

I do not buy the whole "Stann is a hero" as an excuse not to fight him either. Fans would love to see that fight and they would love to see either guy win. I don't think I have ever heard any fans boo Wandy and that fight won't be the one to buck the trend.

I also thought the story was strange. Because I heard that first they wanted Stann vs Wandy, but Wandy refused. Then they tried making Wandy vs Leben, but Wandy called out Belfort. Wandy wants Belfort probably at UFC Rio because he said he wanted to avenge his loss at UFC Brazil years back. I think Wandy actually wants to fight Belfort the most. The story got mixed up somewhere.

Ya that's the weirdest part. Wandy calls out Vitor now doesn't want the fight? Just doesn't seem like him. The holding out for Brazil thing might be true, but I hope he isn't looking at Leben as an easy win.

LoL oh I see, one of those! :D

Where has Wandy said he doesn't want to face Vitor? As far as I know he called Vitor out and the fight will be announced soon? Even Dana White has stated that Silva will be facing Belfort as his next opponent.

OLDfan posted an interview with Dana that had this exert:

By Sergio Non, USA TODAY

NEWARK
Reporter: Wanderlei (Silva) against Vitor (Belfort)? It's on?

That's the fight I want. Wanderlei is lobbying for a Chris Leben fight.

Wanderlei turned down Brian Stann too. Wanderlei turned down the fight with Brian Stann a few months ago.

Reporter: If that fight happens, would that fight happen in Brazil?

It would be in Las Vegas. Las Vegas in July, I think. May or July.

Reporter: July 4?

Yeah.
The thread was "Jones looks Like the Man".

yeah, wandy is scared:sarcastic12:...god...some ppl...

wandy wants to fight vitor at UFC rio, hes always wanted a rematch and thats why he called vitor out right after he lost to AS

problem is UFC rio is still pretty far away and vitor said he wants to fight one more time before fighting at UFC in rio

so the problem is vitor wants to fight wandy now, and fight some1 else at UFC rio

while wandy wants to fight leben now, and face vitor at UFC in rio...not complicated
