Matt Hughes beating Anderson Silva not so unbelievable?

Remember before Rich Franklin fought Anderson Silva, Matt Hughes was rambling on about how if Franklin lost he would move up divisions to fight Silva? Shortly after most people discarded it since matt hughes himself lost the belt and rich got FU*KED UP. But is it so unbelieveable now that we've seen that silva's biggest weakness is his wrestling which is hughes biggest strength(if he chooses to use it instead of being a dumbass and thinking he can stand with him)I can actually kind of see hughes pulling off a win agianst silva the spider has never really faced anyone with hughes' wrestling skills.

What do you all think?

I think this would be a great fight that could go either way. Matt is a very big guy to be fighting at 170, at 185 he's not all that small either. On the ground he can control opponents in ways that Travis Lutter could only dream about. That being said, I'm sticking with "The Spider".

this is a do-able fight for matt. he can take it to the ground, much like lutter did. but instead of working for better postition, matt can just try to pound anderson out. i think the difference here is that silva would work his wrestling skills a ton before this fight. he could beat matt standing up easily, and he could possibly catch matt in something on the ground. i really see this fight as a 50/50 one, it really depends on what gameplan the fighters come in with.

Silva won by sub, he is also a black belt in BJJ. I think Matt should stay where he is. He may be able to ground and pound but silva was taking a beating at one point and came out victorious.
Silva is a dangerous man IMO, and i think if he does lose in the future it will be because of a "punchers luck".

Personally I don't see this as a close fight at all. I think that Silva would destroy Hughes. Silva did get taken down, easily, almost like he wanted to let the fight go there...hmmmm. He then submitted a fantastic BBJ artist, not world class, but very close. Matt would not last on the ground with him.

I see Matt trying to start the fight standing like he has the last 5 or so and getting clipped before he gets a shot. After that he'll go for a shoot and eat a few knees. Silva has a striking ability far past anything that Matt has seen and his knees are deadly.

Matt will be great at welterweight again, but not champ and certainly not at middleweight.

Quite stupidly, Lutter was week from cutting weight. Silva is not nearly as good as GSP, on the ground. Hughes is getting a little older, he would be relieved to not have to cut so much weight. He would take Silva down and dominate him.IMO

IF Hughes can take it to the ground maybe he'd get the victory but Silva's striking is in my opinion superior to GSP's and look what happened there.

However I know Hughes would not stand with Silva just like he probably wont in the rematch with GSP. It would be a tough one for Hughes to win, Silva has devastating knee's. Hughes is 5'9, Franklin is 6'1 and Silva's knees went to town on Franklins face he wouldn't break a sweat kneeing Hughes in the face.

the difference between lutter and hughes would be that hughes would easily be able to hold him down unlike lutter who was only able to hold the top position for so long i dont see hughes submitting him i can see a GNP decision victory or a late ref stoppage

Not even Matt is dumb enough to think he could stand with Silva. I think Hughes has a chance here. I think he could get the GnP stoppage or maybe even a submission. But I dont know if Hughes does take him down Silva could submit him as he showed in the Lutter fight hes very good from his back. Obviously if it stays standing Silva would get the KO. I'd give this fight about 60/40 Silva
