I can't understand why Dana looks at a monitor
When the fighters are right in front of them. I mean ok, sometimes he can't see the position they're in, but yesterday in the Nogueira fight they were directly in front of him and he didn't even lift his head up haha.

This is because he wants to see what is being broadcast to the millions watching, rather than just what he can see from his view.
He is not there to watch the fights, he is there to make sure everything runs smoothly. The vast majority of the UFC's profits come from selling pay per views ( free broadcasts are promotion for their pay per views) therefore it is important for Dana to watch the monitor so that he knows exactly what is going on.

I wonder what would it feel like though, being so close to the action and watching it through the monitor.

I would assume that since he is the CEO and is at EVERY event it is nothing special to watch the fights live to him. He doesn't even know what its like to watch a UFC from home lol (Well since he and Zuffa has owned it).
Plus it is his job to make sure everything is running perfectly. I wonder if its his job to switch between cameras.

No at the camera switching. Thats entirely up to the production crew. For every camera switch thats made theres about 3 people with head phones on talking non stop... mostl likely in a film truck or room nearby.

...Dana wanting to see what the world is seeing does make sense. I'm sure for other reasons as well. Getting different camera angles lets you see the fighters from all sides, especially when it's on the ground. Odd but an interesting question anyways...

...Nothing beats being there. The electricity in the air is wicked. They have those huge monitors on all 4 sides of the arena so you can see everything clearly from practically anywhere. My avatar pic is UFC 88 in Atlanta. I sat near the top with a giant monitor 20 feet from my face. Sadly enough as watched Liddell suffer his worst KO loss..LOL!
