I have zero interest in seeing Royce fight again.

He's way past his professional fighting years.

I heard he was interested in fighting on the UFC Brazil card. That's a tough one for me. I'm an old timer and loved watching him dominate all those big guys back in the beginning, but the sport has moved on and he's well past his prime. After the Matt Hughes fight I don't think I have any interest in seeing him return either.

Yep, I hear ya. I was going to say put on an exhibition match with Almeida or Maia vs Royce. New school vs old school ya know what I'm saying. Almeida might be a step down since he's a student of his cousin Renzo...hehe.

I had to do some research. Just read up on the founder of Jiu Jitsu way before Helio Gracie. Check it out --->

Mitsuyo Maeda (one of his students was none other than the late Carlos Gracie who in turned teached his younger brother Helio.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsuyo_Maeda

According to Renzo Gracie's book Mastering Jujitsu,[54] Maeda not only taught the art of judo to Carlos Gracie, but also taught a particular philosophy about the nature of combat based on his travels competing and training alongside catch-wrestlers, boxers, savate fighters, and various other martial artists. The book details Maeda's theory that physical combat could be broken down into distinct phases, such as the striking phase, the grappling phase, the ground phase, and so on.

Geez...talk about laying the ground work already over a century ago!

Any justification for me wishing to see Royce return to the Octagon would be purely sentimental. He cannot hang in there anymore, and he could get seriously hurt.

The UFC is not, and should not, become a sport were legends from years long since gone can return for final farewell matchups. It makes the sport too much of a 'gimmick' for my liking, and less of the serious competition that it is. However, if anyone was to be deemed worthy of a final fight, i suppose it would be Royce.

A further, more obvious problem is who do you give him as an opponent? If you give him a can it diminishes it somewhat, especially if he where to lose. And if you give him a higher echelon fighter (Chael, Vitor etc) its likely he would die.

Royce has his legacy. He doesnt need to fight.

The history between Judo and BJJ dating back to Kimura/Helio, leaves me one option.
Royce vs Akiyama (small MW/Judoko) with the GI.

Or the UFC could stop the Universe from moving or whatever it does and they could sign another weird japanese just for a fight!

This guy -------------->

That way, they could sell 1 million tikets easily!
And the ratings is Brazil would sky rocket!

I knew there was a reason I was sleeping with you

This is the perfect match to let royce have in the ufc. Granted it wouldnt really mean anything who wins, but I'd love to see it and I bet a lot of others would to.
