good NEWS MACHIDA FANS

machida talks about jon jones.
was relieved to learn that White’s statements about being Machida possibly being cut from the roster if he loses his next fight were “not quite what he meant”.

It is too early to say if Jon Jones will retain the travel-happy UFC light-heavyweight title belt, according to former champion Lyoto Machida.

When Jones won the belt from Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 128 there was immediate talk of a ‘Jon Jones’ era starting. But having seen his own ‘Machida Era’ last for just two fights, the former champion knows the dangers of speaking too soon.

“Sometimes a guy does not need to be very experienced, because sometimes the guy is good. I think the same way. I saw [Jones] and said this guy had the potential to reach. But as we said, this [light-heavyweight] category is much disputed and it is difficult to tell if the guy will stay champion long,” he told Tatame.

“When I won, everybody said I'd stay long. But it happens that you become a target, you become much studied, you are much persecuted, everybody wants to beat you… Of course he has physical qualities and techniques to stay for long. We, as his opponents, have to study the best way to beat him because he is very strong physically.”

Machida deflected the question of whether he has the perfect style to beat Jones.

“I think my style is very different from most people, and I believe in my style, but one thing is that with all sincerity, I have not thought of it. I am not in a position to compete for a title, not at this time. Everything can change in a matter of days, but not what is happening now. The next step we are going to Couture, the next step is most important to me.”

Finally, the former champion also says that he had a talk with UFC president Dana White and was relieved to learn that White’s statements about being Machida possibly being cut from the roster if he loses his next fight were “not quite what he meant”.

Machida faces Randy Couture on April 30th on the main card of UFC 129. The card is headlined by Georges St. Pierre defending his belt against former Strikeforce and EliteXC champion Jake Shields.

My totally random off the top of my head spitballin':

If Machida wins, Rampage wins, Shogun vs Griffin 2 (maybe ?), if Bader wins/Davis is mentioned, I can see Machida going up against Bader/Davis or Rampage 2, or Shogun vs Rampage 2, with the accumulated winners duking it out for #1 contender.

Or Machida vs Rampage, Shogun/Griffin vs Bader/Davis. Then those winners going at it. With the accumulated winner getting a shot.

Also have to consider Franklin, Hammil, etc, who are in the 6-10 bracket, but could easily get a win stylistically, and move up into contention.

Suffice to say, as far as I can see LHW is, as usual, a clusterf*ck.

However, I do believe Machida has a better shot than almost anyone against Jones.

I would love to see Machida get the belt back, obviously, but facts are facts our karate kid is on a two fight losing streak.

Now if he beats Couture then it bumps him right back into the mix, anyone who says that talent wise he isn't capable of beating Shogun or Rashad again, Rampage, or Jones is a fool. But he'd need atleast two more fights to build himself up as a worthy title challenger.

I personally think the winner of Rampage/Hamill is up next and if you don't think that the UFC would put Hamill who could become a major story and would have defeated Rampage, Jardine, Tito, Jones albeit by a very iffy decision by Steve Mazzagatti, and Mark Munoz in a title fight, you're crazy. Be real a Jones/Hamill rematch promoted by the fact Hamill is the first deaf athlete competiting for a world championship(correct me if I'm wrong) would be a big deal in sports media.

As for Lyoto, I think he's not too far behind if he finishes Randy, but I think after Randy, Ryan Bader or Phil Davis is his next stop. I think we'll see Shogun/Forrest II, but Forrest/Machida does also make sense and could happen but pending it doesn't. I see no reason for Lyoto not to take those fights, he is on his way back up after all and Bader and Davis are top ten guys that can be added to the growing legend of the Dragon.

After all, we don't really wanna bet on Ryan Bader against Machida, do we?

Regardless, like always through the good and the bad, I'll be propped up on the couch on the verge of a stroke cheering The Dragon like there's no tomorrow, and hoping that the belt comes back home.

Nice find Tabares

You could read between the lines that Lyoto has already figured out Jonny "Bones" Jones

It's not an easy way back to the top though!

I never would of believed MAchida would get cut. After the Shogun annihilation, theres been a close Decision loss to Rampage and thats it. Even if Randy manages to get a grind out a decision, it won't be a conclusive enough beatdown to make Dana think, wow, this Lyoto guy is actually a big pile of crap. Lets get rid! I'm a big Machida fan and I see him as a future champ again. Hopefully.
