Rumor: Vera vs. O'Brien?

Quote:
Hi Josh, it was hard not to notice Brandon Vera (Pictures) cage side on Saturday night during the EliteXC show. Were you able to catch up with him and find out any details regarding his contract or where he will be fighting next? Thanks, Dan

Unfortunately the only chance I had to speak with Brandon was in the Memphis International Airport. It was short and sweet, but not so deep on news. Brandon wanted to speak with us after asking his manager, Mark Dion, if they were going to do interviews. However, the timing didn’t work, as I had to catch my flight back to L.A. shortly thereafter. We’ll do our best to get an update on Brandon.

I do have it on good authority, though, that Vera will fight Jake O’Brien. All signs point to the UFC doing anything it can to leave a black mark on Vera as he appears headed in another direction.

I'm not sure how good his authority is...
...if this goes through, I see Vera winning by whatever he wants.

So you guys must think Vera would just destroy Herring? O'brien is pretty damn good. And Vera is like barely a heavyweight. O'brien would be much stronger and bigger. I see Obrien winning this one. By GnP or by decision.

Yeah Vera would destroy Herring.
And against O'Brien, Vera is just too slick and skillfull, I'm not sure how good his wrestling background is though. He won't be a lame as Herring on his back either. Herring didn't put any resistance on the takedowns, perhaps due to his injury or whatever. But vs. Vera, it'll be a different story. O'Brien better come prepared to eat some muay thai knees if his strategy is to shoot for takedowns.
O'Brien couldn't even pull-off the GnP nor the RNC on Herring. If he could lay on top of Vera, Vera has some BJJ to fall back on.

I use to be a fan of Vera until I heard about all the controversy surrounding his recent pay scale request. In my opinion he does not deserve to be one of the highest paid UFC fighters. I would like to see him beat one of the top guys before asking for that kinda coin. Beat someone like Arlovski or Cro Cop and then ask for stars  Anyway, Vera Vs Obrien is not something I would want to pay to see. I think Vera would destroy OBrien. I hope they pair off Vera with one of the heavy weight contenders.

I wouldn't fault Vera on that one...EliteXC put up the rediculous offer. So what's a guy to do?
Should he turn it down?

You know Dana is going to tell O'Brien to lay and pray the entire time. The fight will be boring unless Vera makes quick work of him.

I think O'Brien has enough self-respect to go into this fight to win, not lay and pray. That being said, I don't think he'll win. Vera is a great talent. I don't really fault him for this contract dispute either, because if EliteXC is offering a ton of money, why not ask the UFC for more to stay?

i think the whole point, that your missing, is to not build vera up any more. if he's not staying with the ufc they want him fighting someone you dont wanna watch, in an undercard fight on a fight night. why on earth would they put vera into the spotlight against a contender??

Vera is a beast. This is a huge mismatch. Vera has good takedown defense and is great in the clinch. This fight isnt getting out of the first round. Vera by complete and utter destruction. If O'Brien wins this fight, I will leave this forum!!

2.BJ
3.Fedor
4.Kos
5.GSP
