"Well Lyoto's been kinda that enigma for a lot of guys," Couture said. "Figuring out how to approach him, how do you make this guy fight you and not fall into his traps and his game. He's very interesting, very complex style. When you start breaking it down and studying it, he does a lot of things very interestingly and he makes it work for him."

"I think obviously the most effective thing is his footwork, his ability to move and stay out of the way of things is pretty impressive. I'm not real big on making predictions, I think if I can cut him off and make him to fight me I'm gonna have a good night. If I can run him into the fence and use the clinch skills and the cage fighting skills I've developed from my Greco background, it's gonna be difficult for him. I think if I can get him on the ground, I can make him work there. We'll see what kind of ground skills he really has because nobody has really put him there."

"I'm looking for a way to get a hold of him, choke him and make him tap."

randy's fans say he is the master strategist.
but clearly we all know that hes going to hugg and dirty box his opponent even take it down on d ground
he does it all over again and again he is so predictable

i want machida to win coz randy's time is over..i just want him to pass the torch to machida

Well how about his master strategy is to do the same thing over and over again? It hasn't exactly proven a bad thing because the guy is a legend. I want Machida to win though because he needs it, if he loses 3 in a row I don't know if he could get his mojo back.

Agreed. Randy is definitely a legit Black Belt. I think him getting it for tapping Toney was more of a joke than anything. The guy has studied it for years and at his age, it is more than possible for him to have earned it. Especially taking into account his ground control, it is definitely legit.

Just because he doesn't submit people often doesn't really make a difference either. I mean most people (including myself) recognize Shogun as a legit BJJ black belt, and he has only ever submitted Kevin Randleman.

Agreed also. Theres also the likes of Wanderlei, Mayhem Miller, Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans. Hang on, I'm sure people are basically giving these belts away nowadays!

I have to say I like Machida in this fight. I've always been a supporter of Captain America on here, but I think the Dragon is going to make him look really slow in the octagon. And I think Lyoto's sumo will be enough to counter Randy's clinch game if it gets to that. Machida has tossed just about everyone he has ever clinched with.

Couture couldn't get Vera down and I don't anticipate he'll have much luck with Machida. Plus I have no doubts Machida is solid in the clinch and the ground. A fight that could go either way but I see it being a boring fight of failed takedown attempts by Couture.

I think Couture called it clean. If he can get ahold of Machida and jam him into the fence he'll probably win. If he can't he'll probably end up unconscious on the mat from a Lyoto counter punch. I see Lyoto taking this fight as Randy has a bad history when facing guys with lots of movement (guys on their bicycle as Rogan likes to say) but I'll be pulling for Couture. I love watching Randy fight and hope this isn't his last hoorah.

Randy does have a decent chance...as much as any skilled grappler does, but I don't recall Rampage being able to shut Machida down in the clinch very effectively, and the only reason IMO that he got that close is because Machida feared his punching power. Randy doesn't really have that kind of KO power so Machida won't be so timid. I see Machida coming out and thrashing Randy pretty much everywhere.

Couture has no chance in hell of submitting Machida. While Couture is a legit groundfighter, he's never shown any predisposition to submission fighting. He'll probably catch Machida and try and tie him up, and he'll go for the takedown from the clinch. But he'll likely have a high failure rate.

Machida on the other hand can light Couture up from the outside with his in-and-out striking, and his Thai clinch is one of the best I've seen in the LHW division. I think if Machida can find his rhythm as a fighter, like when he was hunting for the belt, and during vs Shogun #1, he'll finish Couture in the second round at the latest.

I love that trip against BJ gif. Weee! Bottom line Randy is wayyyyyy too slow for Machida. It'll be KO by the 1st round as long as Machida capitalizes on his speed and power. If he's afraid to engage then he'll get stuck on the fence at least for a round.

Predictable comments from Randy there, man Lyoto really SHOULD win this fight, and I think he should be very aggressive.

Lyoto has a great clinch and knees but if for some reason he won't want to tie up with Randy, similar to how he didn't want to get near Rampage, then it's just going to be Randy chasing him all night, clinching and trying to drag him down. Difference is, when Lyoto does dart in for the kill like he did Rampage, Couture won't recover, and Lyoto will certainly do this, he always does.

So IMO, no matter what state of mind Machida is in, Randy probably can't grind him to a decision because he won't survive Lyoto's accurate, if late in the fight, attack. Randy needs to finish Machida to win, I think stylistically he can frustrate him for a bit but I'm not sure he can take it all the way before getting Dragonized.
