Originally expected to face Brian Foster (15-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at the April 30 event, Pierson will now face Jake Ellenberger (24-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC), who steps in with a little more than two weeks of notice.

UFC officials today announced the change.

Featuring a welterweight title fight between kingpin Georges St-Pierre and challenger Jake Shields, UFC 129 takes place at Rogers Centre in Toronto and airs on pay-per-view.

Foster was forced to withdraw from the fight with Pierson when an MRI – required by the Ontario Athletic Commission to compete at the event – revealed a brain hemorrhage.

Marc Fiore, who trains Foster at the H.I.T. Squad, told MMAjunkie.com that while his fighter is OK, he is required to undergo another MRI in six weeks to assure no permanent damage is present.

Ellenberger seeks his fourth-straight win after narrowly edging Carlos Eduardo Rocha via split-decision at UFC 126. No stranger to last-minute opponent changes, Ellenberger has been expected to face Jon Fitch at UFC 126 before the perennial contender was pulled in favor of a UFC 127 fight with B.J. Penn.

Meanwhile, Pierson debuted for the UFC this past December and earned a unanimous decision over Matt Riddle. The win was his sixth-straight victory overall.

Well, that made my 129 CPL pick'em job a lot easier.

Ellenberger all the way.
Pierson is good, but Ellenberger is two levels above him imo.
He wasn't as dominant as i expected against Rocha, but he was in deep waters and managed to get back and win the fight.

Ellenberger - TKO 1st or 2nd rd.

Whoa... I know Ellenberger has power but Sean Pierson is crazy technical and aggressive.... this could be a major shootout..

Really looking forward to this fight now... great replacement..

This suck's for Pierson, Foster was going to be a tough fight but Ellenberger is a lot tougher. Pierson coaches at my gym and I'm routing for him all the way but I don't like his chances against Ellenberger. I think Ellenberger has no where to go but up through the welterweight division hes a handful for anyone at 170.

Ellenberger in his last fight if i recall wasnt sure he was winning the round in the judges eyes so to give himself the best chance at the 25 second mark he kept shooting in , and he also knew that Rocha didnt have enough to work then.

That kind of irked me and i usually dont mind guys fighting tactical but atleast fighters like Fitch take you down or try to all the round and not as an attempt to score brownie points with the judges.

So with that said i think this will be a tough fight very close and i think the key to how the fight will play out is how well Pierson defends TAKEDOWNS, if Jake scores one on hos first attempt or early then id say Jake will fall back on that if he doesnt he should worry because i think he will get lit up.

Ill say Ellenberger Via UD becuase even though he is 9 years younger he is alot more experienced and i havent seen Pierson enough to judge his take down defence.
