No, he should not be cut. He's a solid fighter (one of the best in the business) and he's being pitted against some of the greatest fighters around (Shogun, Rampage, Couture). Very few men could go through that kind of meat grinder and come out unscathed. Plus, it wasn't like he was dominated by Rampage. That was a close fight that didn't really drop Lyoto's stock too much. Another loss to Couture would hurt him but he'd still be a top-tier guy who with a few wins would be back in contention.
ok thanks for your opinion i think also that the fight with rampage was close and he wasnt dominated but if he does loose it would damage his title pictures at least for this year.
No he shouldnt get cut. If Zuffa hadn't have bought Strikeforce then i would say it would be a big own goal for the UFC to cut Machida, but even with Strikeforce now being owned by Zuffa it would be a stupid decision.
i didnt watch all of the rampage fight but for the first round i thought it looked pretty even so in the end rampage walked away with it but it still counts as a loss and with 3 losses in a row(including a loss to coture) it would put him below top 8 or so in the LH ranks... thanks for the post
yes i heard even though zuffa bought out strikeforce there still going to keep their fighters in strikeforce and there will be no inter-promotional fights between UFC and strikeforce
I just thought that somebody dug up an old thread. Simply no, he lost to Shogun and IMO should have gotten the W against Rampage. And the hype has done it's job, i see him as an elite challenger even if he loses.
Yes, if he loses to Couture he needs to get out of the UFC and go to Strikeforce. He has a much better chase competing against Henderson, King Mo, Mousasi, Cavalcante, and Gracie then against Griffin, Davis, Bader, and Jones the guys he would have to face next.
People shouldnt be getting CUT until they start losing to C level opponents. They cant keep putting him against the ELITE and then cut him if he loses. That just doesnt make sense. If he cant hang with the ELITE you give him a pay cut and lower his level of opponents. he either starts winning or keeps losing and then gets cut.
Problem is the UFC doesn't have much of a C-Level(cept for Tito) at 205 and you can't put a guy making six figures on the prelims while asking guys who get paid 1/5th to be on the main card.
Won't happen. After he beats Couture he can fight Shogun again and beat him. Then, more than likely, lose to Bones (or rematch Rampage or, cringe, Rashad). I don't really feel that the second fight with Shogun really proved much. It was a flash KO in a fight that Machida was doing fine in. It wasn't like he was being beaten around the ring before he lost. Rampage fight, whatever. We all know who Rampage thought won. Machida ain't getting cut.
Now, for those of you who feel he should get cut (not directed at anyone in particular), isn't that really just an admission that Couture is past it? If he isn't, then there should be no punishment for losing to him.
I hope he doesnt get cut, and i doubt he will. But in Dana's eyes (the only ones that really matter) a loss to Couture would place Machida at the wrong end of a 4 fight loosing streak. The caliber and magnitude of his opponents will undoubtedly play into it - but if he is defeated, and went on to lose again to a B/C level fighter then he would be getting his walking papers.
Its an incredible fall from grace for Lyoto. From the undefeatable enigma - the Machida era - to discussion of being cut. Its a crazy sport sometimes.
This makes no sense. Brandon is not in the same league a Machida and a prime Couture would have killed him. Machida is a former champion. Who has Brandon ever beat of note? The version of Mir he beat doesn't count considering what Mir had gone through before returning to the ring.
If lyoto gets cut after only 3 losses I can think of a few other fighters that need to be cut for the same reason. Most notebly Tito Ortiz whos goin on 4 losses and 1 draw in his last 5 fights.
If Zuffa did not now own Strikeforce then I would say 100% do not cut him. However now that he can just mosey on over to Strikeforce and Zuffa are not losing out on all the money they have spent promoting him, then if he loses send him to Strikeforce.
It amazes me that some people are so arrogant that they will rag on a cop for stopping them because they are "insert non white race here" even though they were guilty and the cop was right to stop them in the first place.
Some police are racist, this is fact, I have experienced it myself. If you get pulld over cos you are black andd riving a nice car, then by all means you have the right to be annoyed. But if you get pulled over cos your black and your packing a few Kg's of weed and a shotty, then shut the **** up.
Umm...wrong thread...or this is so full of metaphor that you will need to issue a rosetta stone so that we can decipher it and how it relates to Machida/Couture.
No because he already has wins over Evans and Rua plus Silva. Imo he beat Rampage buts that just KARMA :thumb02: , he has shown he has great skills and TBH the division isnt the greatest anyway and i think he is one of the TOP 5 in the world so letting him go would only weaken the division.
Was in the other thread. And is a very good point, the UFC has cut a grand total of ONE former champ. And that was Mark Coleman, long after he should have retired.
Which, the racist comment? If so, never saw the other thread. Just seemed to appear here so I had no point of reference. Not bothered either way, just couldn't make out what it was about. Thought I had missed something.
"IF" and it's a big if he loses then I see him staying in for another fight. Otherwise jumping to SF and challenging Hendo immediately for the belt. Easy win then he'll be undefeated there for awhile until moving back to the UFC.
Yes, because if Couture beats him then it means that he is not adapting. Maybe a cut will force him to make changes he was unwilling to make previously.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
