Georges St. Pierre: "I can beat Anderson Silva." Says Jake Shields can too.
No disrespect to GSP, but I think he would have a tough time with Silva's length and overall size advantage. Saying Jake Shields could beat Silva is laughable imo.

Jake Shields WOULD beat Silva. An absolutely iron chin, a thousand leagues higher in BJJ than Silva and wrestling good enough to get Henderson down for 25 minutes?
Yeah Shields is like a robot made to destroy Silva. I have no clue why he's fighting GSP at WW honestly. Stylistically, Silva is a much easier opponent for Shields.
I want to remind everyone too that Silva's reach advantage on GSP that everyone talks about? Little over one inch.

Jake Shields would beat Anderson Silva IMO. Jake has all the necessary tools hell I even think his horrendous striking is an advantage as it means that he won't get foolish and get tagged. TD, TD, TD.

Yeah agreed and he definitely isn't getting subbed from the bottom, period.
Honestly, even though Shields' offensive striking is stiff and ugly, his defense standing is really good and you can see it in fight stats, in his unmarred face, etc. He got hit hard once by Hendo, one or two times gassed against Kampmann, and that's basically it in the last couple years.

Jake has a perfect style to beat Anderson. Way, way, way better wrestling, better BJJ, an iron chin.
He'd put Silva on his back and that would be the story of it, and unlike the Sonnen fight, Shields has better BJJ and would overwhelm him even more than Sonnen did.

GSP yes, Shields not sure.
Shields gas tank isn't that great and he is unable to finish top caliber opponents. He would probably be able to take Silva down and hold him there for the first few rounds but then I think Silva would pick him apart standing or catch him in a triangle or knock him down and choke him out.
People are taking the Hendo fight into too high of consideration when thinking about Shields. Hendo looked horrible, his tdd was brutal after he gassed in the 1st round and from the ground he offered no offense and could barely even muster a little bit of ability to get up.
Many of Shields other opponents have been able to get up or stuff his takedowns much better then Hendo did. Kampmann, Miller and Okami all gave Shields tough fights.
We have already seen that Silva can get beaten on for 23 minutes and still be fresh enough to pull out a win. I think he could definitely do it against Shields who gets cocky and leaves himself in precarious positions at times(like in Kampmann fight).
GSP is a tough fight too but I think GSPs conditioning, much better striking and smarter fighting gives him a better chance against Silva. Shields could win but I definitely wouldn't consider him a favorite in that fight.

You guys are forgetting that if Shields were to fight Silva it would be a 5 rounder and Shields isn't known for having good cardio. I believe he'd dominate the first 2 with wrestling then gas and Anderson would finish him.

I'm starting to wonder if all the Shields praise from GSP isn't a part of his strategy, maybe to get Shields overconfident or something.
Silva is from another planet, plain and simple, he seems to fight as naturally as we breathe, I have yet to see him gas out.
GSP for a win, maybe
Shields for a win vs silva, maybe there's too much of a gap in experience here.
GSP and Silva both spent their last years to fight top contender after top contender, they're now "used to" fight tough, long and difficult fights, they both have the cardio, they both have the talent, the chin, the condition and the work ethic. And more important, none of em ever rest, they both keep working hard with top trainers and coaches, in many disciplines.
At this level, let it be GSP or Silva, they're like the beatles or jimmy hendrix of MMA, true artists, they're not even "fighters" anymore.
That being said, I see silva a little more "solid" and "mature" than GSP (who's also caught in the "I will not fight friends" BS)
I see silva retiring should he lose his belt

No way dude. He's been in multiple title fights and he's never gassed in the later rounds. He was controlling dan in the fifth easily, same with Miller. It was just the cut to WW that drained him for the Kampmann fight, he's never really looked like that before.
