What if Royce Gracie didn't win UFC 1¿

I'm not sure whether this was discussed before, I couldn't find a thread and I'm not sure whether it fits here or in the general MMA sub-forum, but here it goes:

I've just rewatched UFC 1 and besides remembering again how bad the refereeing was at that time a question came into my mind: As UFC 1 was kind of a co-production with the Gracie family and somewhat meant to promote their style the show went into a symbiosis with Gracie Jiu Jitsu - so what would have happened if, by bad luck or what ever other reason, Art Jimmerson had knocked out Royce Gracie in the first tournament round¿

A big part of the success of the UFC was to bring some kind of upset in showing a relatively unknown style dominating styles like Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing etc. that where already known to non martial arts specialists. The UFC has been the epitome of MMA for Western spectators ever since (apart from deeper involved fans who knew Pride), but what if the symbiosis with (Gracie) Jiu Jitsu hadn't worked out in those early days¿

What do you think would the MMA world look like today if Royce Gracie didn't win UFC 1¿
