I wouldn't say that a former champion has to prove him self in a few fights. Especially when the new champion is hurt and especially in the HW division.

Going back a ways to when Randy Couture took the belt from Tim Sylvia and then had contract disputes, Tim had one fight and then a fight for the interim belt. Then when Frank Mir lost his interim belt to Lesnar in a unification fight he only had one fight before getting another interim championship fight against Shane Carwin. Yes those were interim belts but if the champs had not came back then they would of been made the regular champions like won Andrei won the interim title but Mir couldn't defend his regular title.

Or just look at Randy and how many title shots he had.

he won the title,
left the UFC,
lost 2 straight outside the UFC,
won 2 fights outside the UFC,
came back and won the title,
won and lost 1 fight outside the UFC,
defended the title twice against Pedro Rizzo,
lost the title to Barnett (Barnett gets stipped of title for failing drug test),
loses interim title fight,
moves to LHW and gets a instant interim title fight which he wins,
wins the LHW unified belt,
loses the belt,
wins the belt,
loses the belt,
wins a fight,
gets title shot and loses,
retires,
comes back to HW division and gets instant title fight and wins title,
defends title,
loses title.

Like Shogun? Shogun lost against the champion and got an immediate re-match. Then he got destroyed and hasn't even been mentioned in a fight in anything other than rumors since. I'm not following your logic.

He sells tickets, plus it's a good classic matchup of wrestler vs. striker, BUT this fight is risky for Brock, imo because if he gets slapped around and looks like a rookie like he did against Cain, his rep will go into the tank and he won't be nearly as marketable. If I were managing him, I'd let him beat up a couple of cans before taking on JDS.

Wait a minute. From what I remember reading Dana said JDS would get the title shot with a win, but Lesnar wouldn't necessarily get a title shot with a win over JDS.

That's often the case with matchups, infact Werdum was going to get a title shot after JDS vs. Werdum.

They are not gonna give him cans, he´s much to high on the ladder for that.
hay could feed him Roy Nelson, but imagine Roy wins (very probable) his rep will go deeper into the tank and he would probably walk out from mma without making more bucks to the UFC. If he looses to JDS no need to leave the sport just yet.
