I think GSP's already fighting his fight on the mental level, maybe try to get Shields overconfident
But what made me think is the part when GSP says he's been working on punching mechanics in order to get serious KO Power. Now I'm expecting him to get the W by Ko because if he works on something, you can be sure he'll get it.
that dude is scary, I'm not sure he ever heard about the word "overtrained"
It's intersesting to see the difference in how they train, GSP's really a different animal and I really don't see many people, except Andy, to put him in trouble.
I'd go for GSP on this one and I don't see it going to the decision, he will not take the chance to get subbed by Shields in the 4th or 5th round, I see him going very agressive, standing up, going for very specific shots so he would "soften" shields ground game, then, if that's not enough, I see him taking the fight to the ground in the latter rounds.
So either early Ko, or mid fight-ish TKO
right now I'm happy I'm not Jake Shields because even one week before, GSP already started to fight his fight.
If anything I think Shields doesn't give GSP's game enough respect and that's what GSP looks like he's capitalizing on.
it's probably easier to break someone who's a little overconfident and GSP's aware that if he wants the W, he'll have to break Shields mentally, so he acts all "I'm scared, I take this seriously" and all (in which I believe he does for every fight) in order to build Shields confidence then break it easier later on in the octagon.
I'll be in Barcelona this day but I'll try and watch the fight anyway, somehow. Either way, I don't see this one going for a decision, with a fair chance of a KO (GSP) or sub (Shields) finish in the early rounds.
The problem for Shields if GSP comes strong, is that GSP's not gonna get tired and will keep coming strong as long as it takes.
The problem with GSP if he comes strong, he might leave himself a little more exposed, and this is where the "breaking" comes into place, if Shields will gets broken early he'll not be able to capitalize on GSP's eventual mistakes, which will build even more frustration and leave even more openings. And with a relentless GSP who worked on his Ko power going after you, he'll only get away with so many mistakes, up until the point when he gets caught.
