Mayhem:"He Greased Up"
Quote:
“It’s like, ‘Yeah, get over it,’ but it was the same thing when I fought him and he was greased up,” said Miller. “I was like, ‘[Referee] Big John [McCarthy], he’s greased up.’ He didn’t give a damn. ‘You’re getting beat up. Shut up.’ It’s just now the commission is telling B.J.’s mom that. It sucks that’s what it has to come to.”
He also spoke candidly over what he perceives as a blatant disregard of the rules.
“We go all the way up to the commission and from me getting beat up in the second round saying, ‘Hey, this guy is greased up,’ to BJ taking it all the way to the Nevada State Athletic Commission and them still saying, ‘Nah,’” said Miller. “Like look, don’t have the rule if you’re not going to enforce it. Don’t even have the rule. Let’s just cover ourselves in baby oil and let’s fight. Lets do it. Like I didn’t really care. I would fight Georges with a tire iron. We both have a tire iron and a trash can lid and I’d fight him like that. But that’s not the rules. The rules are don’t grease yourself up and he broke them, but no one gives a damn.”

I hope he doesn't grease against Shields.

This is just Mayhem doing what the UFC signed him for, generating interest. I love me some Mayhem, I don't think GSP even greased.

Kinda agree with him here.
A lot GSP's opponents have said he felt greasy during their fights. Hell, there's even footage of him doing it between rounds, yet no action has been taken against him. Why bother having a rule if you have no intention of enforcing it? Seems silly.

Even if GSP did grease, I very much doubt he has greased up since the media caught up with it after the BJ fight. That would make him an idiot. Coincidently, he has not lost a round since that fight either.
The Shields fight is the one where grease would be handy, and I'm sure GSP will not risk it. If he out grapples Shields, then clearly GSP is the man.

GSP still beat him handily the few moments it was on the feet.

I agree. Why have the rule when breaking it won't be punished anyway?

Here's the problem(s).
1.) He's not a high level BJJ fighter or grappler.
2.) He was getting thoroughly beat up although it was an entertaining fight.

GSP has 23 MMA professional fights: 17 in the UFC.
Name at least 5 fighters who said that about St-Pierre - with arguments (quotes, interviews etc).
You have BJ and Mayhem already. You only need 3 more...

^^This.
Mayhem is always looking to generate interest around him.
It's a good recipe to get the world's attention on yourself.
I only find it strange to come out today and talk about a fight that took place 6 years ago.
