BJ needs motivation - when he's motivated he is great.
When he's not motivated - he is like another fighter.
im a BJ fan... hes my fav fighter in the lw/ww divisions...
but seriously, im really sick of the "motivated/un motivated" nonsense BJ fan boys keep going back on.

when he loses he was "un motivated" so thats why he lost... but when he wins, it was a prime "motivated" BJ, thats why he won. its nonsense and total crap.

he was beaten by fitch and and was very fortunate to get a draw.

the reality is, BJ will get schooled by the top WWs. they are just too big and strong... i would of liked him to stick to LW.

move out of hawaii, train full time at a world class gym that produces ufc champs... he'd easily get the lw title back. A little tough to get motivated for cage fighting when you're eating mcdonalds, smoking pot and swimming in the ocean in paradise.

Bullshit. He did better against Fitch then anybody expected. If Penn was fortunate with the draw then so was Fitch.

Fitch wasn't too big for him at all. He lost that fight for one reason and one reason alone; cardio. He was exhausted by the third round and thus got taken down at will and hit in the face for an entire round.

Technically Fitch isn't as good as Penn and his size wasn't some huge advantage people were making it out to be before the fight. It was the cardio that ****ed BJ.

Thats not an excuse either, just an explanation as to what happened in that third round.

He's got a similar mentality as Mirko although he's doing much better. I think it's really a matter of going through the motions and same routine over and over again. They need something to spark their interest. Even Wand doesn't seem to fight with the same zeal he has in the past, he seems more focused on his gym these days. Like any athlete I believe they go through phases. BJ wants to seal up his legacy and tie in a few loose strings.

But I believe his highlight is still beating Matt Hughes x2and reclaiming the LW belt. *NOTE* He has the tools to beat Edgar, but chooses not to. That's the best case example of a super hard working blue collar fighter with more guts and hustle who simply wanted it more vs a ultra talented fighter who kicks in the sun...haha. Can't blame em, but that's where we're at now.

I still hope he kicks the shit out of Fitch though.

wtf?

what a way to discredit Frankie Edgar and his 2 wins against BJ, he beats BJ once, but the fan boys typically make the same old excuses, "BJ wasnt motivated, he didnt look the same".

rematch: BJ gets his ass handed to him, (much more convincely) , LOL and now you say he simply "chooses" not to beat Edgar...

get your head out of your bum mate

Ok...ok...without getting into a name calling match.

Think about this. BJ employed the same game plan against Edgar. He should have went for the clinch, takedowns and took him to the ground rather than try chasing him all 10 rounds. Edgar won fair and square, but it doesn't change my opinion nor the opinions' of the masses out there.

- would you say Edgar has better boxing than BJ Penn - no
- what about Jiu Jitsu - hell no
- kick boxing - maybe
- wrestling - yes
- cardio - definitely
- power - no

Bottomline Edgar is not as talented as BJ Penn, but he works harder and is a helluve a lot quicker. Plain and simple. Another point to think about. Can Edgar fight at WW and reach the success BJ has. No way Edgar beats Matt Hughes, or takes GSP to the distance. Can Edgar even last one round against Machida? What about Fitch...yah right. BJ beat (almost) arguably the second best WW fighter out there while Edgar almost lost to Gray Maynard who is a much smaller version of Fitch.

Basically you're a noobie kid who probably started watching UFC in the mid 2000's...I'm ahead of you by over a decade...and have probably seen 80% of all major MMA fights. SO...before you call out names be sure to back it up with facts.

My point all along was that BJ is far more talented than Edgar, but Edgar outworked em and deserved to win. Nothing more nothing less. If BJ is super focused like his fight against Diego Sanchez and especially against Matt Hughes x 3 then you get championship material.
