how is randy the #1 contender???
did the ufc just hand him title shot because he's popular? what made him the number 1 contender for lhw and now the hw title shot out of nowhere? wtf this aint fair to any of the figthers

Ding!
Vera was the top contender. They tried to make Gonzaga the next contender and people shouted that down.

Yeah, they needed someone who would put up some sort of a fight or at least have a good chance and they needed someone who wasn't scheduled.
UFC fans seem to have a problem with them bringing people in and giving them title shots, so they didnt want Cro Cop to go there yet. |

Its no brain science the Sylvia Vs Couture is gonna sell tickets/PPV's like nobody's business.

Since when does the ufc have a ranking system? There is no such thing as number one contender. Plus, who the hell else is gonna fight sylvia? They got jack for talent in that division (with the huge exception of Cro cop and the somewhat lesser exception of AA (who already got his 2 shots)). Cro cop just fought his first fight, and that leaves nobody worthy.
So Dana calls up Randy and says, "Hey there ya old dusty fart, how much is your dignity worth? That much huh? Ok it's a deal!!" |

i think it's really disrespectful to have him come back after retirement and automatically get the belt. in my opinion, it's a ploy by Dana. have Randy as champ, have CC beat Randy--cause, duh--and then be able to market to the average know-nothing-about-mma-fan in american that CC beat the legend Randy Couture for the HW title. "look, who knew?"
it's just a marketing thing...

Couture Vs Sylvia makes no sense. IF Couture wins the match it just proves that UFC's heavyweight division is extremely weak. And,does that give Lidell first contention for the heavyweight belt? Cro cop deserves the first shot at the title after this match. He has shown and proved he is a top three heavyweight in the world and it would be a disgrace if Dana White had cro cop fight any other fighter then Sylvia. If Dana White had any PRIDE he would allow Cro cop to fight(I mean put a whoppin) on Sylvia then he can have a real heavyweight champion to wear the UFC belt.At least real knowledgeble MMA fans would have a little more respect for the UFC heavyweight division with Cro cop as champ.  |

Randy wanted to come back, Dana didn't call him. Dana doesn't even set up the fights. I am sure he Ok's them or has influence but he doesn't make the fights.
Not to mention, UFC DOES have a ranking system, not number by number, but people do get into title contention |
