5 LHW's Past Or Present That You Think Could Beat Jon Jones

Name 5 LHW fighters from any era that you think could dethrone current champion Jon Bones Jones.

My Picks

1. Chuck Liddel- Could have sprawl and brawled his way to keep himself on his feet and then countered a with the legendary over hand right.
2. Roger Gracie- The BJJ sensation would exploit the holes in Jones ground game and pull of a submission.
3. Maurico Shogun Rua- I no ull be thinking what the hell Jones beat him already but am talking about past Shogun from pride. I think he could have overwhelmed him with aggression and stopped him with strikes.
4. Frank Shamrock- Very well versed in all areas think Jones would look for a takedown and Frank could catch a submission.
5. Rashad Evans- Gonna go out on a limb here with my last pick think Jones would win the stand up on points but would be wearily of getting tagged by Suga and would look for a takedown Rashad could counter and then use his wrestling to grind out Jones for 5 rounds decision win

I think Gracie and Shamrock would get man-handeled by the much larger opponent in Bones. Rua has already lost and I don't believe foot stomps would give Rua the advantage he needs to beats Jones. Rua is a better all-round fighter now than he he was in Pride IMO.

Evans has a decent chance, with the right game-plan. I think Chuck would probably have the best chance out of the list you mentioned.

I'd personally have to go for a young Couture. He could use his usual tactics of keeping him against the fence, wearing him down etc for a UD.

Rampage in PRIDE. He would have slammed Jon Jones to hell.

Vanderlei Silva, in his prime, would give Jon Jones a fit. I don't think Jones has been faced with the sort of relentless pressure that Wandy is/was capable of.

Chuck in his prime would also be a great fight with Jones. Jones hasn't been touched by anyone with the amazing power that Chuck had.

I'll give you Shamrock but I think Gracie would be just a whole different level on the ground than Jones has ever delt with. Coture is a good choice actually could see him testing the gas tank of Jones. Did Bas Rutten ever compete as a LHW?

I agree in terms of ability Gracie would cause more problems than Shamrock. I just think in terms of size and strength, Jones would be too much.

And yeah, Rutten has fought at LHW. He also fought at HW. Although I think that was back when the weight catagories where slightly different.

I dont no what it is I just think Jon always seems to leave his arms way out wide just begging to be armbarred. I wasnt sure if he compeeted at LHW id swap Frank for Bas then think he would cause Jones lots of problems.

No past LHW's would have much of a chance IMO. You can make an argument for if Chuck has a chin but I doubt it.

Frank Shamrock? Really Frank is a legend because Frank was a true student of the game but now everyone is. Frank was the first really well rounded athletic fighter MMA had seen and that is what made his great in his time. The fighters today are simply better though he would never be UFC champ and likely would never obtain more than gate keeper status.
