No, spaulding91 was right. Hepatitis A you get via contaminated food, water and/or poor sanitation areas. It's no "serious" desease, meaning it's usually nowhere near lethal and it's not going to be chronic. And there is vaccination against it, which you should consider when going into a third world country. It heals usually in less than 8 weeks, so if he gets a doctor's clearance he should be able to fight.
Hepatitis C on the other hand is quite serious though and usually becomes chronic, but it's not as easy transphered as Hepatitis A. It needs blood to blood contact, so like HIV it is a threat for people who do combat sports. There is no vaccination so far.

It's quite easy transphered. For example he could have bought some fruits on the market which where touched by the vendor who had it and ate them without properly washing them before.
