IMO terrible news, it takes away from the legitimacy of the sport. What constitutes a main event? Is the last fight on a UFC Fight Night considered a main event, even though its "less important" than say the 2nd to last fight of a PPV card? Completely subjective rule as White and UFC could make a main event 5 round fight out of pretty much any matchup depending on what kind of a card it is on (UFC FN/UF Finale/UFC on Versus/ etc.).
I can't be the only one who sees this as a bad idea...can I?

How many times have we seen a spirited fight go three rounds and thought that had there been a little more time one or the other might have finished? THat's the point of this adjustment.

You're not. I'm no fan of this either. Hopefully this will just get pushed under the rug and forgotten about after a couple months.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid idea.
STUPID.
Want to see less decisions? Make the fight one ten minute round, or one ten minute round and a five minute decider (Pride).
Want to see more decisions? Make the fight so long fighters are scared to exert any energy.
Fighters who do normal training camps are gonna have to dedicate extra time now to cardio and therefor less time to technique and improvement.
This is only a good idea if the extra two rounds are optional, only implemented when there's a draw.
edit: to answer to HexRei, fights are rarely finished in the fourth round, and you know how many fights have been finished in the fifth? Four. Ever. And one of those was just because of a cut.

This is great news. It's going to change a lot that's for sure.
The Mousasi-Jardine fight is a perfect example of how it's going to affect outcomes and Mousasi would've gotten the deserved victory after all.

i prefer this system, 1st round 10 minutes, 2nd round 5 minutes, 3rd round 5 minutes.

You can still get a draw in a 5 round fight , but the chances are slim so good idea.
Also he has a gripe with Football/Soccer because of a tie/draw ?
LOL its an essential part of a league format in which you eanr a point for a draw and if the game ends up 5-5 how can that not be exciting regardless of the result.
some peoples logic.

If it's just for no.1 contender fights then thats good. interim title fights are the same thing except you get a worthless belt.
