MONEY MESSED UP MACHIDA-dana white

Quote:
Dana White believes Lyoto Machida can return to the top of the UFC light-heavyweight division, if he can rediscover his hunger for the sport.

Machida takes on Randy Couture on Saturday at UFC 129, knowing he faces the possibility of being cut by the UFC if he chalks up a third straight defeat.

The Dragon stormed unbeaten to the 205lb title, defeating Rashad Evans to capture the belt, but after a controversial victory over Mauricio Shogun Rua in his first title defence, Machida then lost the rematch and followed that up with defeat to Rampage Jackson.

White believes the taste of success went to Machida's head, but now he expects the Brazilian to come out with new focus against Couture.

"This is what I think happened; A guy goes through his entire career, he's got this incredible elusive style, nobody can figure him out, he's explosive, got knockout power, but then once you start making a lot of money, it starts messing with your head and you start doing things differently," White told ESPN's MMA Live.

"I think if Machida comes out like the old Machida, I think he can beat anybody in the world."

Added motivation for Machida comes in the shape of the August event at UFC Rio, where he admits he would love to fight in the future.

I didnt see his style change a whole lot.......

Im not hating but he still has his elusive style , he still likes to pick his attacks and doesnt go all guns blazing very often.

what happened in the Shogun fight could happen to anybody , one guy is throwing hell for leather he could hit you with one at any time and its lights out. The 1st Shogun fight was close and he didnt actually get Machida with the BIG SHOT.

The Rampage fight he was doing everything the same again and in my eyes he won the fight due to landing better strikes.

Im not seeing how MONEY messed with him.

Where he went wrong was winning that first decision vs. SHogun.

Now he thinks he can just dance and win 2 out of 3 rounds. Which he tried vs. Rampage. Problem is Rampage was chasing him and nothing wet on the 1st 2 rounds. Thats Lyoto's problem.

I used to like the guy and his style. It used to be a style in which he made guys look like fools while being very effective (Tito). He should be able to do the same to old man Randy, but I wouldn't be that shocked if he ran around for 2 rounds trying to win the last round again.

Lyoto has very good hands and feet, has solid wrestling, and a good BJJ game. He should be more aggressive sice he has most all the tools. But for whatever reason he thinks it is a Karate competition.

They'd be foolish to cut Machida.

This, losing at 104 would have done him more good than winning did, because his style is so effective and he's so well rounded but he thought he could score points without taking risks. If this was the case, most fighters would just be defensive movers like he was against Rampage.

Whether you agree with Rampage winning the fight or not, if Machida had won that then every single Machida fight from then on would be the same story, but no matter how aggressive he is tonight, I won't be convinced until he faces another dangerous striker again.

Can't really comment on the money thing, but he did get so much attention in Brazil as if they didn't already have Champions, he was treated like a king. Not good for one's ego.

The only thing that messed him up was JUST BLEED fans and the people who put it in his head that he couldn't go to a decision in the second Shogun fight, he tried to fight aggressive, he paid for it. He's not an aggressive fighter, his style isn't an aggressive style and hopefully he's learned that lesson.

Fighting Rampage, after being KO'ed brutally in your last fight probably didn't help either. Rampage has more one punch KO power than anyone at 205 and is capable of knocking anyone out at any time, be it Rashad, Machida, Forrest, Shogun, Jones, he can KO anyone with one punch, Machida was just way too cautious in those first two rounds, but for good reason.

Hopefully, he's made the tweaks in his game, he was elusive for a long time, and for 15 fights no one figured him out, you never get better if you never improve, and I think he's realizing that while his karate is still gonna give most people problem's he's gonna have to improve some other aspects of his game.

Machida will win this fight, that's a guarantee, and very likely that he finishes Randy.
