Goldy is obviously paid for enthusiasm and to cater to the less-educated fan. Some of his ignorance is obviously feigned to draw Joe into explaining what is happening in a fight. Joe does a great job of understanding fights and predicting what fighters are attempting to do. Unfortunately Joe tend to show favortism and bias.

The work Frank Trigg and Jay Glazer did for Pride is some of my favorite announcing. Bas Rutten is also solid gold but doesn't really need the money from commentating. Mir was a good announcer but focused too much on the ground game and Kenny just doesn't get me fired up despite having arguably the best appraisal of a fight as it occurs.

Honestly Joe and Goldy are like family to me anymore. I'm just so accustomed to them being around that I don't really pay any attention to what they are doing but more just acknowledge they are there. They are as much a part of the UFC to me as any of the fighters.

Rogan was so goddamn biased in the Shields fight it made me sick. Shields made GSP's jab miss like 95% of the time easily and got barely even got hit in the fight, while at the same time bloodying various parts of GSP's face up and terrifying GSP on the ground. But all Rogan could talk about was how he was "outclassing" and schooling Shields standing.

And in the Hominick/Aldo fight it was the same story. Aldo was wrecking Hominick standing, dropping him twice at least and landing every leg kick, bobbing and weaving away from nearly every punch... ugh. Rogan needs to go because it's getting ridiculous.

Why are people suggesting guys like Randy, Bas etc to replace Goldberg who is the host commentator? You think any of these guys can do that job?

They can't simply replace Goldberg, it would need to be a host voice who does all the scripted stuff and everything Goldy does. Considering how hard that job actually would be and how seamless Goldy is aside from his lack of knowledge, he's going to be difficult to replace.

That said, I've been saying for ages how the UFC needs a refresh. The production, the commentating, the music, the format... everything. It's the same thing constantly with very little variation at all. Everything needs to evolve and change, UFC just do the same thing with bigger events and in different places. They obviously don't want to change the show.

It was a real bad night for Rogan last night. I was actually raging during the Hominick/Aldo fight, that's some of the worst commentary I've heard in a while.

Aldo last night demonstrated some of the finest head movement MMA has ever seen, seriously. Yet Joe rambles on about how Mark was apparently out boxing him, ridiculous. I don't know what he was watching.

Oh I'm not the only one!
I really am a huge Joe Rogan fan. I like his comedy, his podcast, his commentating. But in the Aldo fight I just have no idea what he saw. True Aldo gassed and slowed down but except for the last round he was still destroying Hominick. For every "awesome" jab Hominick landed he ate 2 - 3 way harder counters. I really have no idea what was going on with Joe. My favourite moment was one replay between rounds where Hominick landed a good jab and Rogan went nuts about how good it was. But said nothing at all when Aldo countered it with a powerfull jab straight combo that rocked Hominick.

I'll always defend Mike and Joe. UFC wouldn't be the same without them and I'm not even interested in seeing what that would be like.

However, I will admit Joe's announcing was erking me during the Aldo fight, I'm one of those people out there that saw a severely gassed Aldo still outclassing Hominick on the feet. The commentating was definitely a bit odd in that fight.

But stuff like this happens. I'd rather put up with occasionally dodgy commentating than lose two announcers that I've grown very comfortable with. I can honestly say I'm a fan of both gentlemen despite the fact that I enjoy ragging on Goldie as much as the rest of the planet does.

The UFC should bring in JR I know he loves UFC and I am sure he would love to commentate it.

Seriously why hasn't the UFC invested in Bas Rutten. Him and Joe together would be great, Both know the game so well. Let Goldie do the Fan Expo's.

Yeah Bas and Joe would be great. Usually Joe does a really good job at comentating most of the fights, but for Aldo vs Hominick he just seemed to be getting a lot wrong. Maybe he wasn't getting a good view of the fight? It's just strange because usually he is right on the money.
