Without seeing the fight I doubt it means he was sick when he fought. To me it seems like maybe he was sick during training and his cardio was not up to snuff.

This fight was awesome...minus Joe's commentary . I completely agree that something (sickness/weight cut) slowed Aldo down. Look at the Faber fight. He went the entire fight without any problems.

What was funny to me was the prefight comments by Hominick. He said that Aldo had never faced a fighter with his elite level of striking. That, to me, is like Shields saying that GSP has never faced anyone with his elite level of wrestling. Just comical. Then, a gassed Aldo was still avoiding 80% of Hominicks shots with head movement alone. It brought me back to Silva vs. Forrest fight. Loved it.

I only wish that Aldo was bigger so we could have a fight between him and either Jones or Silve. Would be an incredibly fun stand up war.

And on a side note, Hominick deserved his monster FOTN bonus for that mass on his forehead alone

Let's differentiate between the term "excuse" and "reason". Being sick is not an excuse for fighting poorly, it's a valid REASON.
Mad props to Aldo for fighting through it and coming out victorious despite his obvious sickness, he will reign champ for a long time!

This part to me was amazing. I don't know how people could watch that fight and not be wowed. Aldo was light years ahead of Hominick in the striking.

His head movement was really some thing else. I was in awe of it at times.

I think it may have had its own weather system.

Sick or not, this fight was just incredible to watch.

If there's a fan out there who didn't enjoy this fight, that person needs to be shut...LOL

I definitely think something was wrong with Aldo.
He had something like an UP&DOWN rollercoaster performance, regarding the intensity and pace he fought at.

He didn't do too much in the 1st rd when he had top control, but he came back to do damage at a much faster pace in the 4th rd, from the same position.
And in the 5th he faded again.

I would have thought he would apply more leg kicks tbh.

Annyway, FOTY so far for me.

Huge props for Hominick for being such a tough SOB and bringing the fight to Aldo.

.

Aldo's hands and head movement were legendary in that fight but I was also extremely impressed with the explosiveness of his take-downs.

I hadn't a doubt in my mind that Aldo was off top form.

His head movement was only so prevalent IMO because the guy didn't have the bouncy movement that we're so used to seeing.
Never have I seen Jose Aldo stand flat footed during exchanges. Ever.

Credit to his chin, and his punching power to get him through that fight.

thats exactly what I was thinking too, after all the hype on his great BJJ they we so rarely get to see as Rogan keeps saying, when finally he had the chance and was on the ground against a guys whos basis is striking, there was not even an attempt to pass guard, or even an attempt to sweep or even gain wrist control from his back in the 5th.

To be perfectly honest aside from sharp elbows the ground game he displayed was worthless.

I want Edgar to go down to 145 and take his title, then we can call Edgar the P4P killer because I don't honestly rate Aldo as a true worthy fighter to claim the P4P status they are giving him, I think Kenny Florian could well take his belt via submission on the ground.
