UFC 129 Results: Nate Diaz Likely to Drop Back Down to Lightweight
Quote:
He got out-muscled and ragdolled by a younger and bigger guy in Rory MacDonald on UFC 129, and now, it looks like Nate Diaz will be heading back down to lightweight. His coach, Cesar Gracie, talked to MMAMania about the likely drop in weight:
"Nate Diaz didn't look too good. I'm gonna be the first one to say it. He looked lethargic out there and he's been asking me to go back to 155 for some time now."
"Frankie Edgar is the champion over there and he's the student of a good friend of mine. Nathan was one of the contenders at 155 so we brought him up to 170 but it looks like we'll probably bring him back down to 155 where he belongs."
Despite getting moderate success at welterweight by winning against guys like Rory Markham and Marcus Davis, it looks like his camp might prefer him to get back down at lightweight, where the 6-foot-tall Stockton based fighter would be one of the bigger guys in the division.

Been saying this forever. Either Nate has to bulk up at WW or drop back down to LW, he has a very small frame but neither of the Diaz brothers are really that bulky with muscle. They are all about the conditioning. Most of Nate's fights are good to watch also, he's always going in with the pressure.

...Anderson silva is far from being bulky with muscle. Sometimes conditioning and dexterity can be enough. Royce Gracie another example. I can't remember seeing Silva gas. For Anderson to endure a doped-up Sonnen, hold his own taking hard shots, being on his back most of the fight and pull off an amazing triangle just the nick of time speaks volumes. Maybe Nate would do better at LW. Nate will never be the striker that his brother is but he has that brilliant top notch BJJ. Shields isn't a great striker and GSP didn't even hurt him once...

About time.
He like his brother struggles with grappler's / Wrestlers and then combine that with a size disadvantage and you have the result of 2 complete shut outs ( Kim and Macdonald fights ) and in one case thrown around like a little boy.

Bad move. Nate fought some really tough guys at WW but that doesn't mean it wasn't the right weight class for him.

Anderson Silva is also fairly big for his weight class without being bulky, where Nate is one of the smaller WW's in the UFC.
