Machida vs Vera doesn't make sense.
For a guy trying to crawl back into title contention, it's impossible to fight someone like Vera - 0-3 (0-2) in his last fights.
Machida vs Matyushenko doesn't sound too bad tbh.
People need to take a step back and look at Vladimir as a legit contender.
Not just the guy who was man-handled by Jones.
Matyushenko is 26-5!!! And he's fought BIG names in his career.
Apart for losing to Jones, his only losses are against Ortiz (for the UFC LHW belt), Lil Nog, a prime Arlovski and Vernon White.
Another possible match-up for Machida, that no one has mentioned yet (
) is Gustafsson
The kid is showing a lot of potential, he is a bit unorthodox himself and has shown big improvements in his last fights.
And he's 3-1, with the only loss coming against Davis.
I was trhilled when the UFC opted to give Jones the title shot. Even though the majority considered it was too early.
Both Bader and Davis fought Lil Nog - a krafty veteran with tons of experience. Ands they passed the test.
I am also happy the UFC are willing to test Davis against Evans.
It's time for Gustafsson to take the next step. Fighting guys like Diabate and Te Huna won't help him evolve.
The UFC needs to keep the young guns hungry and motivated.
I am sick of hearing about re-matches between the older fighters, in a division that clearly has a lot of young-talented fighters who are hungry and willing to step up in the rankings.
