Rampage: "As soon as movies start paying me more than I make to fight, I'm gone"

Quote:

"Honestly, I've been known for keeping it real and I have to keep it real," Jackson said. "As soon as movies start paying me more than I make to fight, I'm gone. It don't hurt to make movies. It don't hurt that bad. Everyday I train. Everyday I'm like, 'Man, I can't wait until I get another big movie.'"

When asked if movies were his future, Jackson didn't shy around the question.

"Hell yeah, you can't fight forever," Jackson said. "I don't have the type of blood Randy Couture has. I give it up to him. I take my hate off to that guy, but I'm not that guy. I don't plan on fighting until I'm 40. And I'm not Chuck Liddell. I'm not coming to work inside the UFC office when I retire. That's not me. I'm an entertainer, I like making people laugh. I like doing movies, action moves and stuff like that. I might even try to be a comedian one day, who knows?

"I wanna keep going after I get done fighting. Some fans are kinda selfish, they don't understand I got four kids that gotta be put through college and everything. MMA don't have an MMA pension. They don't pay you once you retire. I got bills, I gotta keep going."

Jackson knows his place in the sport of mixed martial arts. He doesn't want to lead fans on and make them think he will be in this sport for ten more years. He knows his time is almost up. Until then, Jackson just wants you to have a good time.

"I'm just here to fight people," Jackson said. "I'm here to just make you laugh and give you exciting fights. I'm not cocky like these other guys. I'm not a big arrogant fighter and stuff like that."
Great (long) interview with Rampage ---> HERE:

I understand everything hes saying. It will be a huge loss to the MMA world when he retires. Genuine legend.

I think what Rampage fails to realize is that once he goes to movies full time he's still going to have to keep in shape to land the action roles. He can't just do his standard ice cream binge and hope to land roles for the "tough guy." The guy just seems to hate training, lol.

Regardless, I do understand 100% where he's coming from. I wouldn't want to get my face bashed in for a living either if I had other options.

The day Rampage can regularly make more money from movies than from fighting is when he gets cut from ufc for losing too much. He isn't exactly an awesome actor, and "big scary black guy" -role isn't exactly something only him can pull off either. I would like to see him doing some standup comedy though, because some of the stuff he does is pretty damn hilarious. :D

The only reason he got an acting role was because of his MMA career.

Let's be honest, he's a shit actor (and the A-team is one of the worst blockbuster films I've seen in recent years).

I don't think he has a bright future in the acting world, he should just stick to what he's good at, fighting.

I actually believe he would do great by taking roles in comedies.

Rampage has a natural talent of being funny annyway.

Rampage + Jackie Chan + Chris Tucker + Robert de Niro = AWESOMENESS! :thumb02:

Training 3 times a week to stay in shape is A LOT different than training for a fight. I am sure Rampage wouldn't hitting the gym now and again to land movie roles.

Staying in shape and landing the "Mr. T" roles are two different things entirely. Let's look at at a recent action star like Chris Hemsworth (Thor) - You think that guy was hitting the gym 3 times a week for that role?

Action roles are about all Rampage has to look forward to because his acting sucks. He might land a comedy role (at which point he can get fat to his heart's content) but for the action movies he's mentioning he's gonna need to stay in the gym to get shredded.

yea I too think he would be a genuine comedian, probably even a good stand up comedian, he's really a likeable character and absolutely, genuinely funny

This. He probably could and will get some roles in movies, but he's saying "as soon as..." like he's some A class actor, who producers can't wait to get. And even if some of them can't, that's not because of his acting skills.
