UFC 134 is about 6 weeks after 132 - where he was scheduled to fight Fitch again, I forget why he pulled out of the Fitch fight? (although I do understand that Fitch is also injured)

I'd like to see BJ v Kos, but I don't think Kos will be healed up in time ... damn that dude took a beating lol.

Thanks to limba for this AWESOME sig

BJ pulled out of 132 due to a shoulder injury:

Quote:
For the first time since the news broke that he was out of UFC 132, B.J. Penn has broken his silence about the injury that plagued him during his last fight, and kept him off the July 2 card as well.

A shoulder injury that occurred before the first fight with Fitch in February didnt get any better after the bout, and Penn was still suffering with inflammation and immobility.

I hurt my shoulder before the Jon Fitch fight real bad, Penn said via his personal website on Friday. Of course pushing my shoulder really hard during the Jon Fitch fight hurt my shoulder even more.

Regardless of the time off between fights, Penn was unable to rehab his shoulder in the right way so he was forced to join his opponent Jon Fitch on injured reserve.

As far as a timeline for his return, Penn speculates it would be at least a couple of months resting the shoulder, but hes still happy to meet Fitch when they are both healthy again.

I need about 6 to 8 weeks to take it easy on my shoulder and rest, Penn said. I dont know if Jon Fitch is ready we can do it soon or take a new opponent.

If the shoulder recovers in that amount of time, Penn would likely be looking at a late summer return to the Octagon
The more I think about Shields v Penn the more I like it. Just think that it would be the perfect place for them to fight. I agree that it might be a lot of star power for one card, but I got the impression that this would be a pretty big event but I might be wrong about that. It's not been in Brazil for a long time now, so I would be surprised if they didn't make it a pretty packed card.

Supporting Fighters:

Dan Hardy - Quinton Jackson - Nick Diaz - Paul Daley - Carlos Condit - Urijah Faber - Joe Lauzon - Lyoto Machida - Antonio Rogerio Nogueira - B.J. Penn - Kazushi Sakuraba - Anderson Silva - George Sotiropoulos - Mauricio Rua

Rory MacDonald? Or is it too much of a step up in competition for him?

Penn - Kos seems to make sense. I would like to see Penn Macdonald and I don't care what anyone says Rory would easily take that fight.

Not saying BJ sucks, but I think that's evidence that BJ isn't the best boxer in MMA. He's not even the best in his division, IMO.

I love how no one is pointing out the sad tragic obvious.

Two days ago we find out Edgar/Maynard is off due to both being injured.

One day ago we find out Ben Henderson is facing Jim Miller.

BJ Penn wants a fight, Anthony Pettis wants a title, the UFC hasn't held an Interim fight since March 2010.

Agreed - best boxer at LW has gotta be Edgar (I am aware he was dropped twice against Maynard)
I think the best boxer in MMA has got to be Nick Diaz, and I yes I dare say that I believe GSP is up there too.

Edgar didn't beat BJ because he was the better boxer. In the first fight BJ took the center of the cage and IMO was clearly the better boxer. What Edgar did was move constantly and wear BJ out and keep him guessing with strikes and TD's.

If BJ wants to fight on this card the UFC will find a place for him because at the end of the day he is BJ Penn and I can't think of a single Brazillian that has drew the PPV buys for the UFC that Penn has and that includes Anderson Silva. (Silva for all his dominance does not translate to PPV buys. )

Since the Falcao fight was scrapped they might as well find BJ an opponent and do this.
