Schaub, Management ‘Lobbying Hard’ for Nogueira at UFC ‘Rio’
Quote:
If Brendan Schaub has his way, he’ll be fighting on hostile ground against one of Brazil’s biggest MMA icons this summer.
Not long after his March 19 knockout of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Schaub began calling the name of another former Pride Fighting Championships star: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. With Nogueira’s recent announcement that he will compete at UFC 134 “Rio” in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 27, it seems Schaub’s wish could be granted in short order.
However, the 28-year-old prospect’s management recently told ESPN.com that nothing is set in stone.
“We are lobbying daily for the fight,” said Schaub’s manager, Lex McMahon. “As of now, we have not been offered the fight. We are optimistic that if [Nogueira] is healthy, Brendan has a good shot to be his opponent in Brazil.”
Filipovic has also expressed interest in a rematch with Nogueira in Rio, but McMahon said it “seems a stretch” that “Cro Cop” would get the assignment over the man who just beat him.

Why does his manager not understand that CroCop and Nog are Pride legends who have history, and this would be a fight 'for old time's sake'?
CroCop and Nog helped this sport grow, they changed the sport in their own way, they both had huge impact... Schaub hasn't done anything yet.
In CroCop's era he built one of the most impressive highlight reels ever, he won the Pride GP, he took Emelienenko to close decision. What has Schaub done? Beat Gonzaga and an old and tired CroCop? Got KTFO by Nelson?
I dislike everything about Schaub and I just wish they'd make him fight Carwin. Getting KOd by your friend would really suck.

Way to target washed up legends, that are 30 lbs lighter and can't take a punch anymore.

I'd much rather see a close fight between Mirko and Nog than Brendan just running over Nog to get another cheap and easy win.
Why isn't Schaub calling out his contemporaries in Struve, Morecraft, or Russow? Why does he feel he needs to face who are at the end of their careers. Does he think this is WWE and being a "Legend Killer" is going to make him a superstar?

Step aside and show some respect Shaub!
Man, how awesome would it be to feed Brendan to Brock when he gets better. Brock could use another number on his win collum as young as his record still is, and it would be hilarious... I believe his face would look worse than Mir's!

If I were him I probably would be as well.
But as far as I am concerned, cro cop and nog are legends. Schaub.. Wait who the **** is Schaub? Oh right the guy that got knocked out by fat nancy.. lol I say give cro cop vs nog a go xD they are each more than Schaub will have ever been in mma.

Cro Cop and Nog have been washed up for years...especially Cro Cop. Beating Nog would still be big for Schaub since Nog hasnt really been fighting lately so im not quite sure why hes getting hated on for trying to move up the heavyweight ladder.
Theres an organization that specializes in exactly what you guys are looking for ...its called WWE. Watching guys for the sole purpose of what they have done in the past is a waste of time.

Exactly my thoughts. Give him Jon Olav Einemo and let's see how things go from there.
Crop Cop and Nog have lot's of history between the two of them and i would die to see that fight.

And therefore Schaub calling Nog out says what?
I wish Dana would send his smug ass to SF and let Overeem smash him.

Crop Cop and Nog aren't doing anything in the heavyweight division anymore, why use them as stepping stones for guy's like Schaub when we can have a competitive fight for old time's sake.

Why so much hate for Schaub? Nog is a legend as you all say and he is still considered a top 10 HW in the UFC, so it makes sense for Schaub to challenge himself in an attempt to climb the ladder in what will be an historic card in Rio.
Personally i think Cro Cop should retire already and Schaub will send Nog into retirement as well. It's time for fresh faces in the HW division, and if i were in Schaub's shoes i would want to fight on the Rio card too (who wouldnt???)
