Are we on the verge of the most stacked HW division ever?

This is how the UFC division is looking right now (no order, but top guys at the top):

UFC
  • Cain
  • JDS
  • Lesnar
  • Carwin
  • Nelson
  • Mir
  • Struve
  • Mittrione
  • Kongo
  • Nogueira
  • Rothwell
  • Barry
  • Schaub
  • Cro Cop
  • Travis Browne
  • Jon Olav Einemo
  • Morecraft
  • Beltran
  • Herman
  • Hunt
  • Rosa

Lots of great names there, established vets young prodigies and some raw guys with potential.

Now we have a decent Strikeforce Heavyweight roster as well, and the merge is looming:

Strikeforce
  • Overeem
  • Werdum
  • Fedor
  • Barnett
  • Monson
  • Bigfoot
  • Rogers
  • Arlovski
  • Cormier
  • del Rosario
  • Kharitonov
  • V. Overeem
  • Lavar Johnson/Griggs/Virgil Zwicker/Jason Riley/Devin Cole/Gian Villante

A lot of great guys here too. Nobody is really a can except the list of guys at the bottom and maybe Arlovski at this point. The recent addition of Monson, Barnett, and Sergei is huge to me.

So when the UFC and Strikeforce merge is Heavyweight going to be the most stacked it has ever been in any organization? Even Pride's HW division wouldn't be able to compare by a long shot.

There's so many matchups here that I'd love to see (cross-organization and just inside each org). I think Heavyweight would finally be comparable to LHW, WW, and almost to LW even and clearly having more contenders than MW.

For some reason I cannot figure out, the best HW's have never been in one place. The UFC and SF division are both very strong right now. I would not be in favor of a merger soon, let the SF HW tourny play out first as a lot of people are excited about that. With Brocks injury I wouldn't be surprised if they bring over Reem soon though.

I still think it was more stacked in the old days. Coleman, couture, tank, silvia, etc. But yes we do have some very good heavyweights.

In no way was it more stacked in the old days, there were a bunch of one dimensional fighters who would get obliderated by top 15 guys now. The HW division is stacked but we won't be seeing a merge between the two promotions anytime soon. Maybe in 2 years or so, if I had to take a guess.

Of course.

And as we all know, it's a time tested theory no one draws like the Heavyweights, Ali, Tyson, Lesnar all drew big, all had colorful personality's too people wanna see the big guys. Of course you have your God given talented athletes such as GSP, Pacqiuao, Mayweather, which every professional athlete is in reality.

But no one stands out like the Heavyweights, imagine how many people are gonna buy Overeem fights when he's established? Not many people don't wanna see Velasquez/Overeem.

When it comes to Talent, its more stacked each day than they next, but overlooking the list you just gave me a great fight to watch that people wont hate on.

And thats Schuab vs Struve..... This should be happening instead of Nog.... They both got KTFO by Roy and should put there anger out about that against each other lol

And Rank wise its a good match up... They would just have to wait till Schuab fights this weekend

I feel that the only reason the HW division might be stacked is because there are a lot of fighters with around the same talent level.....which is a much lower talent level compared to some of the other divisions. Theres just a lot of big guys with heavy hands.

I've thought about Struve vs. Schaub for a while now and I agree entirely. Either Struve vs. Schaub or Barry vs. Schaub.

If you're combining both UFC and SF divisions, no doubt.
