LW Division 2012

I was just replying to the BJ LW thread and I got to thinking about the what the LW division could look like a year from now. With all of the talent there is right now, along with Melendez coming over and BJ inevitably returning after Edgar drops the belt, and by that time everyone will be clamoring for Aldo to move up, this division will be stacked beyond belief. Here's the names I can think of off the top of my head.

Edgar
BJ
Aldo
Pettis
Miller
Sotiropoulos
Guida
Melendez
Cerrone
Henderson
Guillard
Noons
Maynard
Aoki

What are some match ups you would like to see and how do you think the title picture would play out?

Don't forget Evan Dunham, Edson Barboza, John Makdessi, and even Kenny Florian if he comes back.

I thought we finally put that misconception of G-Sot as a top LW to rest in his last fight.

what? right so being 7-1 in your last 8 fights must prove that you're not a contender right? G-sot still did actually pretty well in the stand up of rounds 2 and 3 against siver, he needs to work more on it, but im guessing he wasnt even working that hard since he was subbing ppl left and right, he still has potential to be champ, focus on that stand up some more and the TDs, hes still a top LW

anyway...yeah...the division will be sick! really..you could make a solid top 15 of actual talented fighters with potential of being champions, no doubt its THE most stacked division by far in UFC and MMA in general right now, and UFC has almost all the top dogs, there are still some solid ones is SF though like noons, JZ, masvidal, and obviously melendez, also someday we will see eddie in the UFC as well

to be LW champ will be nothing short of amazing

G-sot not a top LW? Are you kidding me? He just had a bad stylistic matchup against a guy he underestimated, ONCE, ever. His only other loss is a DQ to Aoki.

I guess we proved the misconception that BJ is a top LW when he lost to Edgar twice too.

I believe Soti will not be contending for a title in 2012. What I believe we're going to see is Pettis vs Maynard for the undisputed title in 2012. We'll also see the winner of Siver/Winman and Henderson/Miller square off for the next shot (from that group I like Henderson).

So for the UFC LW title I'm predicting

Anthony Pettis vs Gray Maynard
Anthony Pettis vs Benson Henderson II
Anthony Pettis vs Jose Aldo

I believe we will see the following PPW LW fights

Frankie Edgar vs Melvin Guillard
Clay Guida vs Matt Winman
Cole Miller vs Donald Cerrone
Gray Maynard vs Sean Sherk
Kenny Florian vs Melvin Guillard
Frankie Edger vs Charles Olivera

Soti is a top LW for me but it's unfair to list him and miss off Siver in that case.

I have Edgar beating Maynard and Pettis to still be the champ, whislt Guillard beats Jim Miller for the no.1 contendor spot.

I see Pettis dropping out of it, Maynard winning another fight after the Edgar loss and then fighting someone like Edson Barboza for a no.1 contendors fight.

Jim Miller will take on rising Donald Cerrone in a contendors bout.

So my lightweight card for 2012:

Title: Frankie Edgar v Melvin Guillard
No.1 Contendor: Gray Maynard v Edson Barboza
Contendor: Jim Miller v Donald Cerrone

There's a giant difference between Frankie Edgar, The Lightweight Champion and Denis Siver.

G-Sot's a good fighter but Joe Daddy(sadly), Batman, and J-Lau aren't really top competition and I've seen nothing that would prove to me he could beat Guida, Guillard, Bendo, or any of the 5-10 range at Lightweight, his takedowns and striking aren't too good. Awesome ju-jitsu but it's irrelevant if he can't get the fight to the ground.
