Aldo's Next Opponent

So Dana said that Aldo v Mendes was supposed to go down @ UFC 133, but it is started to look like that may not happen. The card is being referred to as Evans vs Davis, and Aldo/Mendes has possibly been delayed (source: http://mmaweekly.com/rashad-evans-vs...likely-delayed

I was wondering if the UFC is possibly waiting to see what happens when Florian fights Nunes @ 131. Do you guys think that if Florian makes weight and wins handily that they would give him the shot instead of Mendes? I personally think that is a much easier sell than Mendes. Mendes could really benefit from fighting on the undercard of a PPV to build his name.

What do you guys think? I would definitely be more pumped for Aldo v Florian.

sucks for mendes but its a smart move, at the end of the day aldo still isnt a big name, though his fight at UFC 129 did help his name get out there, so logically putting him against florian next is a good buisness move, florian is familiar with the fans, ppl would get a better sense of how good aldo is

hell even hardcore mma fans doubt him just because he fights at FW, i hope he destroys florian as soon as possible so ppl can stop saying hes nothing special

after that fight aldo might be able to hold interesnt on his own when he defends his belt, so him fighting mendes after florian would be better

also, this might mean they could put him in UFC rio

Dam if I could neg you again already I would for talking such sh1t, Aldo is a huge name, he was a huge name in the WEC long before the merge than brought him to the UFC, bigger than Florian, bigger than Edgar even.

If your a casual fan and dont look outside the UFC for decent fights or fighters then fair play, but don't go around supporting actions that have had negative effects on the rest of the sport outside the UFC and resulted in negative impacts on the sport as a whole just because you personally where not interested in it without a UFC name tag.

And you accuse me of not supporting the lower weights, when obviously you never supported them without a UFC name tag, now thats fcuked up.

I think everybody would rather see Florian fight Aldo than Mendes, it's just a better fight in every sense assuming that Florian can beat Nunes first.

I understand his point. To the casual UFC fan Aldo is not a big name at all. And before I get negged let me explain. Anybody on this forum is NOT a casual UFC or MMA fan. I am talking about the people who just show up to watch the fights but only really know the main event fighters. Hell Anthony Pettis is a bigger name in casual talk than Aldo. It is quite embarrasing. I love watching Aldo fight but from a business sense I really don't think he could main event a card yet. So having him fight Florian who everyone pretty much knows help him get more recognized, especially if he destroys Florian. Edgar also can't carry a PPV card either.

lol, wtf are you talking about?? aldo isnt even close to a big name, if it wasnt for faber he wouldnt even have been in that WEC ppv, aldo was big in WEC, wich is nothing big at all, faber was the only one who managed to actually breakout into a big star, and pettis, but more so because of his MTV show

ive always watched WEC, i knew about pettis before the kick, look at my post history, ive always watched other MMA promotions, i used to like pride more than UFC, i watched affliction, i watch dream, sengouku, SF, bellator and MFC, and yet you make it seem like only now i notice WEC fighters?

seriously, i dont know what planet you live in but aldo is not even CLOSE to being as big of a name that is kenny florian

just because you know who he is doesnt mean the world does, most ppl had no clue who aldo was at UFC 129

i always thought the mendes fight was a weak idea. to bad Nunes is his training partner. those two against eachother would be awesome.

remember to put "imo" at the end of everyone of my post, and keep the "u mad?" to urselves.

See thats my point, if we still had the WEC he would be the Main Event every time he fights all day long, thats exactly why these weights where better off in there own promotion.

As for Edgar not carrying a PPV event, UFC 130 was all about the Edgar/Maynard fight, I think everyone wanted to see that fight, it was so huge it shadowed the rest of the card even, the depth of the rest of the card did not even occur to me to be honest until this fight was cancelled I was so looking forward to that match.

I want to reaffirm that I am in no way saying Aldo (or Mendes for that matter) aren't worthy of main eventing. Just saying that Florian is a bigger draw than Mendes.

In response to those saying that Aldo isn't well known by casual fans: Outside of Lesnar, GSP, Rampage, Anderson Silva, and maybe Jonny Bones there aren't many guys that draw a lot of casual fans.

Thats a Great point, go ask someone who don't know who Aldo is who Melvin Guillard is (after 13 UFC fights) or who Gleison Tibau (again 13 UFC fights) and see what they say.
