Once Struve fully grows into his body he's going to be tough to handle with that long reach and competent ground game. I wonder about his chin with the big hitters out there but he's still young with lots to prove.
Never said they had similar styles, what I was trying to say (and didn't articulate it well) was that with SS height he could be more effective with a Tim Sylvia like style...jabbing effectively and keeping it standing up. The article posted by Limba showed that he is working on his stand up defense, so by my reasoning I think he would be most successful adopting a similar type of strategy.

I understood what you were getting at about Sylvia. The point I was trying to get at was that Struve is a natural brawler, he gets hit hard and he goes into brawl mode. Some guys are built to brawl, some guys are built to avoid the damage. You can teach a guy to do certain things but their natural tendancies will come out when the pressure is put on them. It's like trying to teach Arturo Gatti to not brawl. Of course he knew how to box better then any of us on this forum but his nature would force him into brawling once the pressure was put on him. I believe Struve has that same nature but I could be wrong.

A 280lb of solid muscle struve would be a monster, plus it will look more natural on him with him being almost 7 foot, where brock and Shane were too small to carry that much weight. A 280 Struve would have the same physique as a strong 6 foot MW.

Something tells me a match will eventually happen once Jon Jones goes up to HW. How much will Jon Jones weight once he makes the leap? 250? That would be a good match that I cannot wait to see.

awesome, i knew he was getting bigger, but i thought he wanted to be around 265, thats great that he wants to be around 290... and his height helps him a lot, its terrible to punch up, i cant even imagine trying to hit his face, how the hell did roy KO him?

future monster right here

Roy KO'd him the same way Rogers KO'd Arlovski. He knew he has his hands down low in the first opening seconds so he ran in and threw an overhand.

I love Struve and I definitely see him being a force if he isn't already considered one. Struve right now would beat Beltran, Schaub, Mittrione and anyone near that level by a considerable amount.

If you watch some of his older fights he was way more aggressive in getting guys to the ground and subbing them. The UFC has been known to pressure guys to stand and bang and I think once Struve gets more comfortable we'll see him utilize his groundgame more.

Knowing how to use his reach would help him more than putting on a ton of weight. He might get worse before he gets better with this news. Putting on all that weight will hurt his cardio and he won't recover as well when he is getting punched in the face early and often. I think eventually he has a chance to be a borderline top 5 HW but his chin might be gone by that time at this rate.
