Who do you like in the upcoming July 2nd fight between Faber & Cruz?

I think this could be a good fight. Cruz is fighting the only guy that beat him in Faber. And Cruz is 17-1.

But Faber ruled the 145 pound weight class in the WEC & defended it many times just rolling over his competition. Granted, he wasn't always fighting the cream of the crop. But you fight who is put in front of you in MMA it seems to me.

Both of these guys have interesting fighting styles...and they say styles make fights. And I think there is some bad blood between these guys. Something about how Cruz autographed posters from their 1st fight I think.

Faber seems pretty laid back & friendly when not fighting...so it is unusual for him to have some bad blood vs. somebody he fights.

Cruz has a style that is unique I think. I've seen some of his fights & he is a hard guy to hit because of his constant movement that is different from constant movement from other fighters. He is up, down , sideways, back & forth, zig-zag etc.

This 2nd fight is over 4 years since the 1st one so I think this is a really tough fight to pick. Which one has improved the most?

I know Cruz beat Brian Bowles who I think is a really tough fighter. He's beaten Cruz's buddy Benavidez from Alpha-Male twice.

I think Faber is a really tough fight for anybody at 135. Actually - when he was fighting at the WEC at 145 - I would bet on him against anybody - except Aldo. I don't think anybody else is gonna have much luck kicking Faber into oblivion at 135 like Aldo did at 145.

The 2 fights he lost to Brown were just MMA fighting related stuff that could happen to anybody. He made 1 mistake in the 1st fight by throwing that elbow when he couldn't see Brown. And he busted up his hands...one really bad in the 2nd fight. But he finished the 5 rounds just throwing all elbows.

I think when you look at these guys - Faber looks stronger. He's got great cardio for the 5 rounders. He can slap on the the rear naked choke's & the guillotine's as good as anybody I've seen if he gets the chance.

If Faber gets on top...he can blow up those elbows as good as anybody I've seen too. And he has really good speed. It doesn't seem to me that his striking game is that great though.

Seems he usually just explodes with a right that if he hits somebody clean with it....can drop them...but he doesn't connect with it very often. I don't ever think I've seen him do any combination punching. But he has good hammer fists if he's got somebody hurt.

Hmm. Boy - this is really a tough fight for me to pick. I usually think I know who's going to win if it is a match up where I've seen both guys fight a couple of times before. But I'm really having a hard time picking this one.

If somebody put a gun to my head right this minute & said I had to pick this fight. I guess I'd pick Faber....but it wouldn't be with much confidence.

Who do you guys like in this one?

Cruz is going to win, and I don't think it will be that close. If I can get anywhere near even odds I'm going big on Cruz. I think his TDD is good enough to keep it standing and he easily outpoints Faber.

I don't see Faber touching Cruz at all in this fight. I've only seen Faber's last eight fights (I figure it's enough to judge his current form), but I've never been overly impressed by him. He's flashy, awkward and never gives up, but I don't see him rivaling Cruz in any aspect of the game. Maybe he can take Cruz down several times, but I don't see him keeping him there for long. And I sure as hell can't see Faber beating him in the standup.

Cruz by decision.

Hmm....I'm surprised you guys think Cruz will win this sort of easy. I can see what you're saying about Cruz having a much better stand up game....as I said in my post I didn't think Faber was much of a striker.

Remember though - Cruz is 17-1....& that one loss is to Faber. Like I said...I have a hard time with this one. And I know what you mean about Faber's style being somewhat awkward. I don't really know why I said I'd pick Faber if somebody put a gun to my head and said...choose!

I guess it is something intangible I'm thinking about when I pick Faber

It depends if Faber can control Cruz on the ground because he does tend to get taken down a fair bit but doesn't stay down for long.

Cruz and it won't even be close.

He's very underrated and after he destroys Faber, and it will be a destruction, he'll finally get the respect he deserves and when people mention Anderson, GSP, and Aldo, they'll be mentioning Cruz too.

Faber needs his ass kicked anyway, and luckily Cruz will be the guy to do it for five rounds, nothing but getting out struck, out classed, and totally humiliated.

I think people are already forgetting that Cruz had a close fight with Benivedez and Faber is just as good if not better.

Haha, well at least you guys know where I stand... Okay now I'll try and say things with no bias.

Faber is quick and has solid wrestling. However, I wouldn't go as far as to say it's better then Jorgensens wrestling. Jorgensen didnt even leave a mark on Cruz in a 5 round fight. I honesty say this with no biasness again but Cruz in my opinion is a better striker then Aldo. I mean Jose has better leg kicks but that's about it, Cruz changes levels like Silva and his log reach let's him hit the body with ease. I honestly can't remember being as satisfied with a performance in my life after I watched his last fight.

If Cruz wins he will finally get the respect he deserves and I hope everyone around here remembers that I called for this to happen a long long time ago.

Having seen only a handful of fights each my instinct would be cruz, mainly due to the speed he gets in and out with his strikes, allowing little room for shooting a takedown. If Faber really gets the timing down on those takedowns the outcome may well be different but if he can't it's a decision win. Can't see cruz stopping him.
