This doesn't sound at all to me like Dana is saying Pettis will "need" two fights before he's getting his title shot. It sounds more like he's just saying the time table will most likely work that way. Should Pettis defeat Guida, Edgar and Maynard will still not have fought... so that might be six months before he gets a shot at one of them... I don't think Pettis the a guy to sit around for six months, and neither does Dana clearly.

I'm a huge Pettis fan. But honestly sh*t happens. He's fighting in the most packed division in the sport. It's almost innevitable that he'd have to cut his way through the UFC's division to get the shot, especially after the Edgar/Maynard draw and double injuries. Even if he already EARNED it with a fantastic performance against Henderson.

I expect Pettis vs Miller, if he gets past Guida, for #1 contender.

My worry is that if he loses to Guida he'll get caught up in the division and have to spend another 2+ years working for the shot he already earned.

When Pettis KTFOs/Breaks Guida cold/in half I'm sure Dana will change his tune. It's not really Dana's fault either... it's Frankie's! It's Frankie's fault for being good enough to battle back against Maynard for a draw after that. It's his fault for making that fight so damn entertaining that not only do we all WANT to see the rematch but there's no question that it should be happening! I guess a little of that blame goes on Gray Maynard as well, though. I can't believe those assholes had the gall to entertain all the MMA fans so damn much!!!

All joking aside, though, when Pettis wins (he's a seriously bad match up for Guida, c'mon) if Dana really feels he needs to fight again then it absolutely HAS to be Jim Miller vs Pettis for the title shot. Jim has a ridiculous record and possibly should've gotten a shot before Gray. Gray WAS the only man with a victory over Frankie though, so I'm not complaining.

Well...Jim Miller is scheduled to fight Ben Henderson, isn't he?!

Jim Miller vs. Ben Henderson Added to UFC on Versus 5

And...if Henderson wins, could he find himself ahead of Pettis, even though he has a loss against him?!

I'm telling you...Edgar and Maynard are cursed!

And i don't udnerstan why Dana is saying this just 3 days before the fight.
It's a pretty negative message he's sending.

I hope Pettis doesn't let this news affect him and takes this fight.

TRUE FIGHTER !!!
Dana going back on his word? Say it ain't so!
