Nice interview, and some awesome comments from Guida saying Pettis guard was better than most of the people he trains with and superior to Diaz and Danzigs.

hahaha i lmao to "the carpet muncher", so true.
Clay is a really cool guy, A hate hating his style because everything else he does is great, just that hugging style real grates on me. I dont blame him though he is just being smart, i blame the rules and the scoring criteria, am pretty sure if knew a way win no matter what i would do it too.

I'm not a big Guida fan, he's like *whateva*, but i don't understand where this animosity for him all of a sudden.
Guida has never been in a boring fight his entire life.
The guy has 4 FOTN awards + one FOTY award and 2 SOTN awards in his last 12 fights = 50% of his fights were f*cking exciting.
He managed to get a nice winning streak going for him and throw his name in teh asme sentence as *title*.
I would say that's a big reason for him playing it more safely.
And even so, all he did was use the rules in his favor against one of the toughest and most talented fighters in the world.
And all of a sudden, "fans" throw rock at him because he wanted to win the fight, more than he wanted to make it exciting, and risk losing the fight.
It's ridiculous.

Not many people here have been hating on Guida. He did what he had to do within the existing rules. The main complaints were regards the system that's in place that allows fights to be won this way.
I agree though, that blaming Guida is ridiculous. Even for me.

All i'm saying is people should really calm the f*ck down when talking sh*t about Guida. (i'm not even a big fan...like i've previously mentioned)
This was the first fight in a very loooooooooooooooong time, he didn't perform at *warp speed*.
His opponent was a big step-up however from his recent ones.
Rules are like this. For the first time, Guida thought about winning a fight by using the current rules, against a fighter more talented and more skilled than he is is.
Many people think he should have just fight his usual reckless-exciting style.
Maybe even get subbed in the process... Right?!
If Guida would have fought the same way by now, he would have been much higher in the ranks. He wouldn't have lost against guys like Florian, Huerta or Griffin.
For once, Guida thought more about what's best for him, not the fans: winning ---> rising in the rankings ---> getting better fights ---> making more money ---> better life for himself/his family.
And "MMA expert wannabees" can't deal with that...

I don't know how anyone can honestly be a fan of Clay Guida. This Guy used to be fun to watch at least. Now he just goes in there and literally holds on without inflicting any real damage. At no time do I seem him trying to better his position, go for submissions, and rain down some Chael Sonnen GnP.
He will never be Champ. He can't outwrestle Frankie, Gray, Gilbert. On top of that..these guys will put a beating on HIM. He should of just stayed a fan fav. and put on exciting fights. I could care less if this guy shows up on a PPV. It's worse then Jon Fitch.

I've always been a huge Guida fan. Mainly because he's from my hometown but he really developed as a fighter and is now a contender in a great division.
The guy bring's it every time and is never afraid to charge you. Everyone has a chance to lay him out if they are good enough so i don't want to hear complaining. Guida is just improving his evasiveness which was a major weakness and using it to set up his TD's which are his strength.
You cannot argue that your winning the fight if your on the bottom not mounting any damage at all guys im sorry. It's like his fight against Diego, he was on top for the most part but Diego still won because he was actively damaging Clay not just attempting and failing at submissions.
There are ways to beat Clay quite obviously you just have to be ready for his tenacity. Dude definitely doesn't deserve the hate. He's just out there fighting for his livelihood and our entertainment. He doesn't have to open himself up to even more brutal punishment just for our enjoyment, especially if he can avoid it and win.

Exactly. Nobody bashes on fighters who are standup only and never employ their wrestling or submissions skills, and nobody ever knocks submission guys who win in their respective way. It's the wrestlers who get all the hate.
I say get over it and quit blaming the fighter. At least they have the balls to train and enter the ring vs. sitting behind a computer mouthing inflammatory remarks which should be directed at those who set the rules for the match in the first place.
