All UFC Non-Title Main Events Will Be Five Round Fights Going Forward

Quote:
Five round non-title fights in main events will be the standard going forward in the UFC.

UFC President Dana White made the official announcement on Thursday that any fight signed from this day forward as a main event would be a 5 round fight, regardless of if it’s a title fight or not.

Any fight currently signed for a main event that’s not a title fight such as Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, who square off at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, will remain a 3 round fight.

White was specific in stating all future bout agreements for main event non-title fights would be five round affairs.

This will be the first time in the modern history of the sport that MMA has had five round fights that are not championship bouts.

White has long talked about making the move, and said they almost made the jump at UFC 131, but bout agreements had already been signed and the fighters were already in training camps to prepare for a three round fight.

“We’re very close to doing it,” White revealed when speaking about five round non-title fights following UFC 129.

Now it is a reality.

White also specified that this policy is in effect for any show that the UFC produces whether it’s a pay-per-view or a UFC Fight Night event, main event fights will be 5 round non-title bouts.

Let the cardio and conditioning workouts begin.

It should only be for big fights.

Excellent. I was getting bored with 'talk' of it. Nice to see Dana take action.

So what do you want to see for a main event of UFC Fight Night 25, because that is the first and likely only time this will apply this year.

I'd like to see Jorgenson and Johnson or Jung Chan-Sung vs Pablo Garza start off with the little guys and put on a great fight instead of a mismatch or "big names".

Though if you want big names, CC vs Nog farewell fight is a dream, love to see that live and free.

I'll prolly get neg repped to hell for this but I don't see the point in this. IMO one of the worst things about boxing is it's just too long.

Not really gonna matter how many rounds it is this Saturday, it's ending early anyway.

I hope you don't get neg repped for it, but I disagree. This only effects main events, not the whole card, which would be two 5 round fights at best if it includes co-main events and boxing is 12 grueling rounds, 5 isn't so bad.

Can the UFC replace Lytle vs Hardy with Jim Miller vs Ben Henderson and make it the first non title main event to be a 5 rounder?!?!?!

That would be f*ckin amazing!

.

BELIEVE!

Isn't the interest in title fights, more so about the title? and not so much because it's an extra 2 rounds of fighting? To each their own.
