UFCThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a U.S.-based mixed martial arts organization, recognized as the largest MMA promotion in the world. The UFC is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada and is owned and operated by Zuffa, LLC. This promotion is responsible for solidifying the sport's postion in the history-books.
UFC is currently undergoing a remarkable surge in popularity, along with greater mainstream media coverage. UFC programming can now be seen on FOX, FX, and FUEL TV in the United States, as well as in 35 other countries worldwide.
More divisions? I hope they can at least double the numbers of shows they have because BW and FW aren't getting enough exposure as it is right now. Whenever I see guys like Benavidez, Torres, Mizugaki and Bowles on the undercard I die a little inside.
Not excited. All this means is year long layoffs for champs after a fight with too many damn fighters on the roster and the same number of cards as always.
All for the sake of watching a boring malnutritioned division that has no serious talent yet.

Take a look at some of Rambaa Somdet's youtube videos, he's a 125 lbs Muay Thai fighter whose nickname is M-16 and he's sick.
UFC =/= MMA. Flyweight MMA has existed for years in Japan and other countries, and MMA sites have done flyweight rankings for years.
It just doesn't have serious audience in the US because only malnutritioned North Americans are that small. This div is really going to have mostly East Asian fighters with a Brazilian or two tossed in here and there.

You don't have to be malnutritioned to be 125lbs. You could just be short. Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles fight in a weight class thats only 10lbs heavier and I wouldn't call those guys malnourished.

Well still I think that 10 lbs pushes it into obscure territory. If you look at the world boxing records for those weights, you see only east asians. I just think these are very regional divs based on body type, without a global appeal.
Man i hope they can bring in some dudes like rey mysterio or some of those midgets fighters. This will be the most useless division in mma history. There is no legit star to begin with or well known fighters.

Even Mysterio is probably to big for the division. Your average flyweight would probably walk into the cage at ~140lbs. So you could have average size ~5'6" guys, shorter guys could be decently built or skinny guys that are taller. Just like all the other divisions have different ranges of heights/weights this one probably will to. As long as the guys can fight then I'm all for it.
They will probably start off with mostly prelim fights and after a while we might start seeing some good fighters and thats when will have the stars. They will probably barely get any time on main cards for a while since they already put some of the greats in the 135 and 145 divisions on prelims.

Also, Henry Cejudo is thinking of entering MMA after the 2012 Olympics. He wrestles at 55 kgs, so 125 lbs would probably be his destination.
If you want to see some Flyweights, you should watch Tachi Palace Fights when they get broadcast. Sometimes they're on MMAjunkie.com, but I'm sure you can find their old shows.
If the UFC ends up with their own channel, I think adding 125 lbs would be great. They'd have the flexibility of putting on non-PPV shows on any date they want and a bunch of weekends they could fill with events. Sounds good to me.
BTW, Manny Pacquiao really made his name at Featherweight in boxing (which at 126 lbs is equivalent to Flyweight in MMA) in his first fights against Marquez and Barrera. The notion that people wouldn't watch people that size fight is, quite frankly, ridiculous. There is also a decent pool of people in North America that size, mainly Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. And the UFC does want to appeal to the growing Hispanic demo.
