But yeah he is a great boxer with awesome TDD. The one difference is JDS has good BJJ.
We have never really seen Chucks BJJ and we certainly haven't seen JDS'. Just because someone has a great BJJ coach doesn't mean they themselves are great at BJJ.

I guess I'm basing it on how often JDS trains with Maia and the nogs, his brown belt under the Nogs, and his brazilian national BJJ championships (at blue belt), and not him actually using it in MMA. But Liddell didn't train BJJ anywhere near as much as JDS does or with the same kind of guys.

Not only that, but if you watched the fight last night closely you will notice that JDS's stance, demeanor, and motion very closely mimicked Liddell's style. I know it may sound like a random comparison but if you rewatch the fight you will see what I'm talking about.

At the end of the day, both JDS and Chuck have used their styles very effectively and now JDS is fighting for the title. JDS is the heavyweight Chuck Liddell, and he will be elite in this division for a long time!
That was interesting I actually thought his movement with the way he sways with his shoulders and moves side to side is very similar to GSP actually. Of course he has KO capability. Chuck isn't a bad comparison at all and you know what this is what the sport of MMA needs. People who finish or try to finish. You can NOT say he did NOT try to finish Carwin. Holy crap...that was like 30 unanswered shots to the head...lolz!

Man, Cain vs JDS is going to be a HW bout for the ages. Two of the most prolific rising stars who are both undefeated in the UFC. Win, lose, or draw I think we'll see a rematch down the line between JDS & Cain and maybe even a rubber match. Look at their road to get to where they are today. You know how tough that is. Together they practially slayed the entire HW division.

There can only be one.

Well I dont think his TDD is anywhere near as skilled as Chucks. I think Carwins wrestling is a tad overvalued. The only fighter that really got on it hard was Nelson and his TD's are good but nothing to write home about.

I know one thing, we'll see how good it really is against Cain in the later rounds.

Dos Santos' stand up is far better than Liddel's "Look at this overhand" stand up... Plus Junior dos use kicks quite a bit more often than he does. He's got the same style, I just think he's way better at it.

I would say JDS had better punching technique and Chuck has better kicking technique. I don't think there is really that big of a difference either way though. I think the really huge thing is JDS is an infinitely superior athlete who has a combination punching ability that Chuck never did because of that. I consider great combination punching to be about 70% innate ability and 30% learned skill. I feel the same way about double legs and submissions from guard you just can't be close to elite at those things without being a great athlete.

Did you just hate on Liddell haymakers?

I feel like, whenever someone heavy-handed demonstrates, or looks like they have, one punch KO power, they quickly get compared to Chuck Liddell.

I agree that JDS has a bit better standup than Chuck, but also you could argue Chuck has a bit better TDD so overall as fighters I think their skill levels are comparable.

Well Chuck was a purple belt and JDS is a brown belt, they were really only one level BJJ apart. And neither of them has ever had to use it in their fights other than for TDD and scrambles.

EDIT: nm someone beat me to it.
