Actually the majority of hockey fights are a joke. Even for pros, fighting on skates is hard, 90% of the time two guys grab on, wrestle around for a few seconds, throw maybe 1-2 punches each, which don't land, or land in any meaningful way, and then the refs step in.

That is the reason I would be happy to see fighting out of hockey. Not because I don't like fighting, but I like good fighting, like.....MMA.

If I want to watch fighting, I'll watch professionals fight, if I want to watch hockey, I want to see hockey, not some crappy imitation of fighting.

There are some very good tilts in hockey, but they are extremely rare.

I beg to differ, as soon as anyone of the fighting player so much as loses his balance the refs always come in and break it up.

There is a TON of strategy into the fighting aspect of hockey as well, such as if you can get one of your less talented "enforcers" to get into a fight with the other team's star player, then you just removed a huge asset from the other team at the cost of a player who's job it was to get into fights in the first place.

It also works as a moral boost, especially if it's the team captain getting into a fight. far from uncivilized, although I don't find the fights too entertaining since as someone else has stated, fighting on skates that are designed to be frictionless is effing hard, and rarely is it ever a good fight, especially since Bogard passed away.

Nowadays the fights are mostly horrible, even i'll agree with that.

You should goto youtube and check out some good fights from the 80's and 90's with Probert/Domi/Odjick/Ray/Twist/Simon, etc.
