How do you get started in MMA and participate in cage fights?

I have a black belt in okinawan karate and watch ufc alot. I have always wondered how to get started in working toward actually competing in UFC either as a real contender, or an alternate. Do you just compete in local cage fights? the dojo seems to provide little help. Any information would be awesome

find a local mma training place/gym. just look for muay thai/brazilian jiu jitsu/boxing. shouldn't be too difficult to find one

What a stud

you need to find a mma gym but be carefull do your reserch if your serios about it. some gyms are all about the money and wont train u well and charge u a great deal of money i know of alot of gyms in the uk that just look after there good fighters and just leave the new guys to it you wont get any were with a place like that there is a rubbish mma gym near me but i travel for 2 hours on the train to get to mine its not as big but they look after u JUST BE CAREFULL most gyms are run by mma fighters who are full of them self.

as for competing i hate to say this but your karate is not gonna be of that mutch use its a good foundation but dont rely on it to win. same as before choose the orgonation u fight for well some will mach u up agenst someone with much more exp just to make there fighter look good and dominant with your karata background they might mismatch you just be carefull there is alot of ugly things that go on in mma ive been done over a few times for this reason

GO ON SHAMROCK KNOCK HIS HAIR BLACK THEN SPANK HIS ASS AND IN THE LAST ROUND BEAT HIM INTO LIVIN DEATH LOL

after so many posts in this forum im going to assume that youve had a brain fart or are drunk by saying that....

to answer the question...im just getting started myself and the first thing i did was find a gym to learn basics and foundation...so two nights a week im doing hapkido at one dojo...and then i found another gym that does mma so my training looks like this so far

Monday - Muay Thai, BJJ
Tuesday - Hapkido
Wednesday - Muay That BJJ
Thursday - Hapkido
Friday - MMA Specific Training
Saturday - MMA Specific Training and Sparring
Sunday - Break

I checked out three of four places before I made my decision. Most places allow trial classes for free or like $10 - $15 per session.

Hope this helps.
